Talking Back to Richard Dawkins!

Here’s a New Idea: You Get a Second Chance to Hear Our Hero

Sometimes good discussions go by so fast you want to say, “Wait! I want to hear that answer again!” That was especially true when author and Atheist icon Richard Dawkins visited us on September 26th. In the standing-room-only attendance at that meeting, packed wall-to-wall  (not once, but twice that evening!), some people did not get a chance to ask their idol a question or challenge his responses.

But wait! You have a second chance! It seems our videographers taped the illustrious Dawkins, with all of his quips and repartee. And we came up with a pretty clever idea:  Why not have a distinguished panel of  NYCA-ers  face our bigger-than-life guest again and--stopping the video occasionally as he speaks-- challenge, agree with or add to what the mighty Dawkins says about the very topics the audience threw out at him!

So that’s what we are going to do! We’re inviting a panel of our most distinguished NYCA leaders (it’s a secret who will be invited to be on the panel). We are inviting the panelists--and you--to come and listen to Dawkins, question by question, and maybe even talk back to our hero.

Confront Dawkins!

The audience will be able to comment on Dawkins’ answers, to disagree with him, or challenge him, and our panelists will support you. Or not.

It may be the only way you’ll have to engage with the most respected Atheist hero since Bertrand Russell.  Come to the NYCA Brunch on November 10th and experience this new 21st-century way of interaction with our Atheist celebrities, in a relaxed, casual atmosphere, surrounded by like-minded friends who will cheer you on as you challenge our charming visitor onscreen.

See It Again!

VIVA Professor Dawkins! Like all good teachers, his words (and his image) linger  on!  Come to the NYC Atheists’ Brunch on November 10 and verbally duel with our idol--or, if you missed him the first time, here’s your chance to see him big as life onscreen, talking with your fellow NYCA members.

Susan J. was a great first-time panelist! Nice to see Bro Dawkins again and nice to be able to comment on his statements. Great to see our activist crowd there--Joey, Larry, Willie, Sue, Kent, Fred, Joanie. And nice to see so many women go up to the mike and speak their mind..

Karen, we're pretty casual. Sure, you can come at 12:30. It's just that you may have to sit further from the screen and the line for the buffet may be longer. Also, people who come earlier get a chance to table hop and socialize with other members. We encourage people to introduce themselves to other attendees.

Willie, who do you mean by "others?" Our meetings are open to the whole world. This particular Brunch gives people the opportunity to hear, debate and ask questions of, our noble hero, Richard Dawkins, particularly if they didn't get to ask their question when he visited us or if they couldn't make it to that meeting. Sure, he's onscreen, but we'll have a panel of people who are pro and con The Dawkins and can reply as he would. Huzzah.

It's always great to have constructive conversations regarding NYCA and members. We need to encourage others to attend as well.
