SUBJECT: SCIENTOLOGY: Cults and Coercion: How Ordinary People are Turned into Extraordinary Fanatics.

Paul Grosswald was recruited into the Church of Scientology during his sophomore year at Hofstra University. During six months of intense indoctrination he became increasingly drawn to the group, until he ultimately dropped out of school, moved into the cult's Manhattan compound, and signed a one-billion year employment contract with Scientology's elite Sea Organization. He finally broke free from the cult's influence after his parents engaged him in a dramatic, heart-wrenching intervention.

Paul is now an attorney and frequently counsels cult victims and their families. He will discuss the manipulative techniques of mind control common in all destructive cults, effective strategies for dealing with such cults, and the continuing legal issues faced by those who have escaped and exposed cults.

Looking forward to this. Wondering if it is as dangerous as some of the other cults out there.

Well, you will find out tomorrow how dangerous Scientology is. I have heard Paul speak before, so I know it is indeed dangerous if you consider that they strip you of your money, take away your personality and alienate you from your loved ones.

Many years ago I worked with a guy who joined and it was very scary. He started saying how he knew everything there was to know--and he had all of life's secrets figured out. But you can get that reaction from people who follow the psychic network as well. For awhile I thought they were very arrogant but no more harmful than Catholics or Evangelicals (and I don't pretend these religions are with out any culpability) but not "dangerous". Then you consider what Katie Holmes went through and some other not so famous people who tried to break away and you have to ask just what exactly goes on there. Really looking forward to this.

Having been a Scientologist a long, long time ago, in a galaxy not to far away, I am looking forward to this Meetup.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
