Fun!                 Music!                  Yummy Food!

NYC Atheists Celebrate the Solstice With Party and Popular ‘Open Mike’
And Fundraiser for Victims of Newtown Shooting

Come, Make Merry with us on Friday, Dec.21 at Les Sans Culottes

Enjoy the joyous Changing of the Seasons with Atheist friends in a relaxed, charming, old French provincial restaurant, LES SANS CULOTTES, known for its sausage-tree appetizers. (The restaurant name, from the French revolution, is translated as “The Pants-less”--but keep in mind, that is not the dress code!)

Music, comedy, French provincial food with jubilant people who share your secular views--what a festive way to greet the new Season!

There will be an Open Mike for those who feel moved, after a glass of wine or so, to go up to the mike and tell a joke, play a musical instrument, sing a a song, confess your sins, wish someone a Happy Birthday, declare your love to your significant other or cry in your beer. Talent is not a requirement; we applaud all efforts! All foolishness, wackiness and general absurdity will be rewarded with cheers, whistles and wild applause.

Who can forget, at last year’s Solstice festivities, Betzy Gordon channeling Marilyn Monroe singing “Happy Solstice, Mr. President,” or the man who waved sausages to make his point or the whole room joining in to sing John Lennon’s “Imagine”?

This year once more we’ll have Larry Shaw (a great Groucho!) as Master of Ceremonies and our favorite guitarist, Ron Duncan, to sing some rousing Scottish songs.

Fundraiser for Newtown, Conn. Victims

But this year our evening will include a fundraiser for the 27 victims of the shooting at Sandy Hook School in Newtown, Conn. Bring a check to the Solstice event or send it to our P.O. Box number. The donations will go as a group from us Atheists to The Sandy Hook School Support Fund, set up by The United Way of Western Connecticut, to help the survivors and the families of the victims. Please make your checks out to The Sandy Hook School Support Fund.

Pick Your Entree’

For your Solstice feast, you will start with the Les Sans Culottes’ unique and abundant Sausage Tree appetizers (assorted sausages and salami) set on your table, along with baskets of fruits and vegetables and pate’. But don’t fill up on these delicious appetizers because for the next course, the entree, you can pick from:

Boeuf Bourguignon (a typically French beef dish made with red wine)
Tilapia Mauniere (sauteed fish made the French way in a lemon and butter sauce.)
Cordon Bleu (chicken breast stuffed with ham and Swiss cheese and served with a mushroom sauce)
Poulet a l’estragon (roasted chicken with tarragon sauce)
Canard a l’orange (crispy duck in orange sauce)
Vegetarian option: Pasta Primavera or Vegetable Plate

And for dessert, the Sans Culotte delicious Chocolate Mousse or Flan with Caramel Sauce
