This is one of our favorite events of the year! Come join us with Team Penn & Teller for the annual Aid for AIDS of Nevada (AFAN) charity walk on the UNLV campus. The primary purpose is to raise funds for AFAN, which supports our local community. Register to participate as a walker and you'll be treated to a festive event full of performances, freebies, and food trucks. (There's also a good chance you'll get to meet Penn & Teller in person!)
This is a wonderful opportunity for us to thwart the "evil" reputation we endure as atheists. We'll have a Las Vegas Atheists team banner to show off our godless pride! Strength in numbers - Please join us by RSVP-ing 'yes' and then follow these instructions to register with AFAN for the walk:
> • Click here for the Las Vegas Atheists team page
> • Click the "JOIN THIS TEAM" button
> • Under Participant Type, select "Team"
> • Under Role, select "Join a Team"
> • Las Vegas Atheists should automatically show as your team choice
> • Complete the rest of the form and you're set!
Our team is a "Penn & Teller Challenge" team, which means you'll be eligible for tickets to their show, as well as other incentives depending on the donations you collect, for example: you get a Team Penn & Teller shirt if you raise at least $50.
Speaking of shirts, this is a great opportunity to show off some atheist flair! Wear your loudest, proudest, godless t-shirts and represent for reason! If you don't have any already, there are great selections at theProudAtheist, cafepress, and zazzle, to name a few.
Once you register, the AFAN site will enable you to create e-mail blasts and a personal web page to help you communicate with your friends and family about donating. Be sure to use all the tools you can and help us make a great contribution!
The walk begins at 10:30 am on Sunday, May 4th. However, you will want to get there early to sign-in and then have time to check out the wide variety of groups and vendors. A few of us will be there around 8:00 am for pre-walk treats and mingling. Look for us under the Penn & Teller tent.
Good luck! Let's make this a big success and raise some funds for a worthy cause in our own community. Make sure to add your AFAN donation link next to your name on this page, so other members who cannot attend but want to contribute will know how to donate to the team through your AFAN page.
