Author/Columnist Christopher Hitchens Discusses Iran, Iraq, North Korea

Cubberley Community Center (map)

Christopher Hitchens is speaking in Palo Alto this Thursday. I've seen him in person once before, and he's an excellent speaker.

Please purchase your own tickets. They are $10.50 through Goldstar. If they sell out, you can buy directly from the Commonwealth Club. Also note that if you're a student, you can get $5 tickets directly from the Commonwealth Club.

The community center is pretty spread out, as far as I can tell the event is at the "theater". See map.

I'll be out front with a meetup sign around 6:30p.

Anyone who's interested in post-talk discussion, let's meet at St. Stephen's Green on Castro St. in Mountain View.

"Professing to be an atheist should not give him a free pass on the rest of what he stands for. " ... so, are all atheists supposed to be Democrats in your world?

I'm sure the Q&A at the end of his talk would be an excellent opportunity for to challenge his stance on any issue.

I was out front with my sign before and after the talk, but it looks like I missed a few folks. I counted about 12 of us at the talk. 6 of us met for drinks at the pub afterward. Good times.

Hitchens is a most amazing person. He described what it was like digging up a mass grave in Iraq and having thier dust fly all around him and get stuck on his body everywhere. One has to have extraordinary understanding of the real world to be able to share this with the public in such an intimate way, most people couldn't handle that and probably end up in an institution. I applaud him for this. He is my hero and welcome to the "other side"

First rate! Hitchens' actual words, to my mind, were a lot less controversial than one might have expected from the emails that have been flying before the event. He mainly spoke on how tyrannies operate, witjh stunning details. I wouldn't have had the chance to meet or hear Hitchens had it not been for the heads-up from this group. I summarized my first impression in a post at Skeptic Friends Network. See here: http://www.... Hey, let's be on the lookout for a Bay Area appearance of PZ Myers, okay? -- HalfMooner
