Science on Screen - Dawn of the Dead

The film series pairing great movies with expert speakers returns to Real Art Ways.

Following an ever-growing epidemic of zombies that have risen from the dead, two Philadelphia SWAT team members, a traffic reporter, and his television-executive girlfriend seek refuge in a secluded shopping mall.

(Directed by George Romero, 1978, 127 min.)

Dr. Peter Cummings is a Staff Medical Examiner and Director of Forensic Neuropathology at the Boston office of the Massachusetts Medical Examiner. His first book, Atlas of Forensic Histopathology, is a university text — and his second, The Neuropathology of Zombies, is a horror novel. Cummings theory that many neurological medical conditions can create zombie-like symptoms will be the basis of his introduction to the film.

This is an old zombie movie that's been on T.V. for many years.
Why anyone would pay to see this is beyond me! What on earth
could this do with science? Is the discussion going to be the possibility
of people becoming zombies? Are you kidding me! Hey, I'm into zombies. My favorite show on the boob tube is "The Walking Dead"
My guilty pleasure. This has nothing to do with science! I'll go when there's a compelling argument for some sort of scientific possibility and it's something that hasn't been on T.V. a hundred times!

If you guys see me, say hi! I tend to just go directly towards an empty seat and not focus on the people around. Not trying to be rude, I'm just not good with introductions.
