Hello everyone-

While membership and attendance have been on the rise over the past year, so have the fees that Meetup imposes to run these groups.  With a fee of $72 every 6 months, these costs have now reached the point where I'm no longer willing to bear the cost.

The current subscription expires in 12 days.  This is a great group, with great potential.  I see that we have several options available to us:

  • Continue as we have with someone else fronting the costs.
  • Shutting the group down entirely.
  • Asking for "Meetup squeeze" donations during our dinners.
  • Merging with another group that is willing to merge our monthly dinner outings into their Meetup calendar.

We will have one last scheduled meeting this month on Tuesday the 17th, and can discuss further at that point.

Of course, I'm open to any other suggestions that you would like to offer!

Don't blame you, Eric. $72.00 is pretty steep for one person. We would be willing to chip in and help. If 18 of us chipped in 4 bucks apiece that would pay for it.

Related to this idea of closing I have been thinking of the Freethinker & Atheist meetup group and how the supreme organizer of that group has not signed in or done anything for that group for over a year. Presently I am the Co-organizer. He is the one paying to keep it open. He has not asked me for anything or contacted me. I was thinking of asking him if he wanted to close that meetup. If he does then I can go over to your meetup as an assistant.

Alternately I can ask him to give the group all over to me and we can post your Tuesday monthly meetup on this calender. Or we can just wait until one day he does not pay and then I assume the cost. I paid for it for 1.5 years when I assumed the supreme organizer role from him once.

(I went from member to assistant organizer to supreme organizer to member to co-organizer)

Would you like me to put your tuesday meetup on this site? I cannot be there for Tuesday meetups.

Should I ask that organizer if he wants to close or turn it over to us? I can pay 50% if you want to split the cost. We could also post a 1$ fee for new members or something.

You are on my member list already. I can make you an assistant this moment unless, of course, you wanted to return to an annonymous quiet life. Just some thoughts.
