Comedian Betsy Salkind – Irreverent In All the Right Ways

  • Center for Inquiry - Los Angeles

If you love to laugh, be at the May 26 meeting of Atheists United. Don’t miss this special appearance by one of America’s funniest comedians—Betsy Salkind.

Betsy is an actress, comedian and former staff writer for “SATURDAY NIGHT SPECIAL” and the sitcom “ROSEANNE” and a joke writer for Anthony Robbins. She has appeared on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and SHOWTIME’s “Fierce Funny Women” and is the author of Betsy’s Sunday School Bible Classics and other children-style books for adults, and a contributor to the just-released No Kidding: Women Writers on Bypassing Motherhood.

The Boston Globe said, “There are countless ways to make someone laugh, and Betsy Salkind knows most of them. Want sarcastic wit? Political humor? Or maybe just a good animal mime? Salkind can pull all that off and more.”

Andrea Kittelson, on Examiner.com, said, “What I admire about Betsy’s humor is not just her straightforward delivery but its keen intelligence. There are no fart jokes here. No racist how-many-Slavs-does-it-take-to-make-a-pie bon mots. No cheap I-don’t-know-what-to-say-next-so-I’ll-go-gutter defaults. Betsy writes material that is smart and delivers it in a way that’s funny.”

Forgot, and I don't know if it's been said already:
Doug Stanhope is the person who set up the fund for the OK atheist.
(We are all OK atheists, now that I think about it) :)

Yep, Miguel, we are all OK athiests! Thanks for the info re Doug Stanhope. When June 1st comes around, I want to donate. I really enjoyed Rebecca Vitsmun in the video. She is one lucky person and I imagine one grateful person!

This issue came up during the Shelley Segal performance on Thursday night. The bible specifically forbids getting any tattoos in Leviticus 19:28, which says:

“You shall not make any gashes in your flesh for the dead or tattoo any marks upon you: I am the Lord.”

    1 · May 24, 2013

    • Carl

Someone asked Shelley about her tattoo. She was "raised" as an orthodox Jew.

      May 26, 2013

    • Maureen N.

just to borrow from Betsy: Are you saying "raised" or "razed," Carl?

I do love to laugh! This sounds like a great event. I'm curious to learn about her 'Sunday School Bible Classics.'

I'm purchasing her "Sunday School Bible Classics" at the next meeting because, after thumbing thru it at yesterday's meeting, I want to add it to my library. It's a great book!

The name of the Oklahoma Tornado Survivor in the video is Rebecca Vitsmun. She did not ask for donations, but atheists raised $91,665 so far, as of 5/27/2013 5:13 AM, to help her rebuild. If you wish to donate to this fund, go to http://www.indiegogo.com/projec.... The American Humanist Association donated an additional $10,000. More info: http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2...

Carl, thanks for posting such relevant and important info on a regular basis. I appreciate your efforts and thorough, thoughtful behaviour!

I love the way comedy enhances the learning experience and how, through absurdity, points out the inefficiency of religion.

I don't know what the big deal is, all one needs to do is think for a couple of minutes-something americans are not trained to do-and you will realise you are an atheist
