Let's Paddle Johnson's Ferry to Paces Mill!

http://www.americanwhitewater.org/content/River/detail/id/474/
If you are concerned about rain, never fear--your skin is waterproof! If the cold puts you off, put on warm clothing. C'mon!
The plan is to meet at Paces Mill, National Recreation Area at 1000 hours, consolidate our gear leaving as many vehicles at takeout as possible, proceed to put in, and enjoy this wee run replete with more-than-likely riffles that would be real rapids in higher water.

Waffle House saved the day - and stopped the rain so we could enjoy a great Metro run. Sometimes it's refreshing having a really small group trip! Thanks for putting it together Andy.

Sorry, not me... But it's winter. So water will be cold and if you don't feel comfortable about it, there's always another time and more trips to enjoy later!

C'mon, Carrie! Pls see Donald's note, above. In the event that you go swimming--and we will get rained upon--you should have a dry bag containing a set of spare clothes. Wetsuit and or drysuit should be on your shopping list, but you should do alright without them if you do not already have them.

Dean's right. As a germ scientist, I highly advise against drinking the water. Cody, maybe-not-sures are among the most curious types of paddlers; hope you can make it.

The advisories aren't for drinking the water, it's advisories against "recreational use" of the water....

      Okay, Dean!

It's a 5-6 mile run, mostly flatwater for the first 2-3. some fun shoals and little rapids later, but with no rain lately, it's likely to be easy. Dress warmly, and bring a change of clothes...you never know if you might need them! Be practical, high fashion is NOT on this menu so don't worry about it (You'll see what I mean when I show up!).

If it has been raining, I would highly advise checking out the Bacterialert website before jumping on this stretch... I paddle it frequently, but due to urban runoff, it can get real nasty and polluted real quickly when it rains. 48 hours after a rain it's usually pretty clean. You can see if there is a health advisory by visiting this site: http://ga2.er.usgs.gov/bacteria/
