Armuchee Creek Paddle with The Coosa River Basin Initiative (8 Miles)

  • Apr 6, 2013 · 11:00 AM

This 8-mile paddle winds through northern Floyd County on this Oostanaula tributary. Small and intimate and full of fish and wildlife, it's the quintessential tour of a Ridge and Valley stream

This guided paddle trip is free to CRBI members*.  Canoe and kayak rentals are available.  Information on specific meeting times and locations will be sent to all registered participants.  To register to participate and reserve your rental boats, please fill out our online registration form.  Participants must pre-register.  Guided Paddle Trip Registration Form

*Notes from Mike:  Thus begins my shameless self promotion of my annual fundraising efforts for CRBI.   If you are not a member and want to go on this trip please join CRBI by donating $35 or more via my FirstGiving fundraising page which entitles you to a one year membership and participation in any of their scheduled trips for free.

I will also match your donation in kind if you are raising money for Paddle Georgia up to the first $100 of total donations from PG fundraisers. Just let me know when donating and I will contribute the same amount to your PG fundraising site.

Donations of any amount are appreciated and donations of $5 or more receive a raffle ticket for the chance to win a new canoe courtesy of Blue Sky Outfitter in Rome. $20 donations receive 5 tickets, $40 receive 10 tickets, $60 receive 15 tickets and $80 and above receive 20 tickets.

I will be at Weekend for Rivers so currently we do not have a "leader" from AAP for this meetup but CRBI folks will lead the trip and will take good care of you.

Please RSVP here to let other AAP member know you are going but you MUST register on the CRBI site to attend and secure any rental boats.  If you have joined CRBI via my fundraising site just note that you are a member when registering for the trip on the CRBI page.  Full details will be sent to all registered participants and those details trump any conflicting info that may appear here.

The paddle was a 5 out of 5 - the put in and take out were pretty rough but I'd still do it again. Loved the creek!

    Hi Sandra
Sorry I did not get to make this trip. I am signed up for John's class in May. I bought a sot and regret it now. I want to trade it in. What boat do you have? I'm looking at a pungo perhaps. I mainly want to do class 11 and below. Have you done the Chestatee? It is a great beginners river near where I live.

    Launch Site Logistics:
A CRBI volunteer will be at the U.S. 27 launch site by 9:00 a.m. to assist you in unloading boats. There is no parking area at this location. You’ll need to pull off the side of the road in the median and quickly unload your boat and gear and then proceed to our designated parking area at Armuchee Park (see directions below). Offload boats by 9:30

Directions to U.S. 27 Launch Site:
From Rome, take U.S. 27 North toward Summerville. From the intersection of U.S. 27 and the Rome Bypass (Ga. Loop 1), proceed north on U.S. 27. At six miles, pass Armuchee Elementary School on the left, continue two miles to Ga. 156 on right, continue straight on U.S. 27 North 0.4 mile to the bridge over Armuchee Creek. Turn into dirt “parking area” in the center median of this divided highway on the south side of the bridge. If you miss the turn off, proceed north, turn back south and access the same dirt “parking area” via the southbound side of U.S. 27.

Does anyone have the details for the Armuchee Creek paddle? For some reason, I did not get an email even though I've signed up with CRBI.

Not going to be able to make this one. Hope to catch up with you all next time you do this paddle -- and I so appreciate the start time, for us who have a long drive!

That is funny! Sometimes the more people there are the harder it is to stay out of the way. Does any one that lives close to Gainesville ga want to carpool? It is a bit far to go alone.

I talked with Alan Crawford and he assured me that it would be a good smooth paddle with only some class I at the most. I told him I was a beginner and very nervous about anything above that. I'm a bit nervous too, but with such a large group, there will be plenty of folks to bail us out if we get into trouble....correct????

Would this trip be ok for a beginner? I have not had the class yet but I have paddled a few rivers, easy to class 2.

    Tentatively yes!
