Day of Etowah paddling

  • Apr 6, 2013 · 7:45 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

This will be a 16 mile paddle on the scenic Etowah River from the Etowah Scenic River Park on Hwy 9 to Old Federal Road Bridge. The weather is supposed to be beautiful and this is a great slow moving river to paddle.

Bring a lunch and plenty to drink.

This is another adult polyethylene recreational kayak event so leave the pets, ww boats and canoes at home unless you can keep up.

Meet at Chick-fil-A 0.6 miles beyond Outside World in front of Walmart in Dawsonville around 7:45am if you want to join us for breakfast otherwise be there by 8:15 because we will leave punctually at 8:30am.

Thanks Richard for setting up the paddle. It was really nice to be out on a section I haven't seen before. Met new friends and paddled again with old friends.

I think the tree with the little white flowers is a downy serviceberry, which is a native species that blooms in April. Also qualifies up there in the strangest tree name category.

    • Margot S.

Jessica, thanks for that info. As you say a strange name for such a pretty flowering tree.

    • Clint M.

Jessica - you are correct. Excellent ID!!

Anyone have a helmet that I can borrow. The Newnan Paddlers are doing Hwy 9, Dahlonega down to Hwy. 136 next thursday on the Etowah, including Etowah Falls. I want to protect my beautiful bald head, now that it's so visible. lol

    April 4, 2013

    • Steve H.

Clint Miller, thanks for the use of the helmet. Hopefully I'll return it in one piece. lol

We all hope you return it in one piece!

Absolutely awesome day on the river. Fantastic group of paddlers, better than fantastic weather and a new section of the river for me. Thanks for putting together Richard, and thanks for ordering a drop dead gorgeous day for us.

Thanks Richard for putting this on the board. One of the nicest stretches of river I've gotten to paddle. Very nice group to be with.

Perfect day, good water levels. Saw a man eating beaver attack Joe, watched a beautiful hawk feather float from the sky as a gift to Jessica, cheered on the members of the swim club and the river was big enough to stay away from the smartasses, except for the one in my boat. Could not get away from him.

    3 · April 6, 2013

Beautiful day and beautiful people. Nice paddle Richard. I didn't notice any smartasses, but I didn't have a mirror in my boat. Lol

Woke up to a very sore elbow joint this morning, so I'm gonna skip this trip until that's feeling better.

I've signed up Richard. I'm assuming that it will be from 9 to Kelly Bridge, camping at Kelly Bridge. Roger?

Allen, we'll miss you. Hope to see you on the 20th.

    Have to choose between a
SOT Access 11.5 or a crossover XP9 for one of the boats. Suggestions welcome.

    April 3, 2013

    • Richard G.

Like Clint mentioned you will stay drier in the XP9 if you can paddle it but you will definitely paddle to keep up. Should be good exercise. We will "not" be paddling fast... just steady.

Thanks for the comments... just what I needed to know.

Why do you always have to chose a day that I have to be at work? Huh?

You work too hard. We'll miss your smile.

Is this gonna be the usual drop cars at bottom, return to top paddle? BMOS (bringing my own shuttler)--is there an address where I can tell my shuttler to pick me up? Thanks

Booo, I need a rec boat. Don't think I'd keep up pushing my barge hull through the water.

    April 2, 2013

    • Clint M.

Robert I think your Wavesport being a cross over boat would do OK.
