http://www.chattahoochee.org/river-race-festival.php

IF YOU DO NOT REGISTER WITH THE RIVER KEEPER, YOU AIN'T GOT A SPOT OR A RACE NUMBER!!!!!!!!!!!

VERY IMPORTANT  ....when you register you will be asked if you want to be part of the Team Challenge.   Answer "yes" please and put the team name as:  Atlanta Area Paddlers.

For the last two years we had the biggest group, this year we want to blow away second place.    Also, our team theme last year was patriotic:  this year it is "To Be Determined."  We have time and are open to suggestions!

This is always a fun day for young and old alike.  Come early on race day, our group will stage near the front of the line but it is hard to hold spaces,,, so again, come early and drop your boats, then you can go and find the coffee!!!

Paddlers of all ages and skill levels will take to the water on Saturday, June 15TH, for the 11th Annual Back to the Chattahoochee River Race and Festival. The race course begins at Garrard Landing Park on Holcomb Bridge Road and ends at Riverside Park in Roswell, the site of the FREE family-friendly festival, music and awards presentation.

Organized and presented by Upper Chattahoochee Riverkeeper (UCR) in partnership with the National Park Service, Fulton County, and the city of Roswell, the event is organized to celebrate the Chattahoochee and foster a sense of community around the river that serves 3.5 million Georgians and 70% of metro Atlantans.

THE RACE begins at 9am and includes open and recreational categories, various age divisions, solo and tandem canoe divisions, as well as kayak and sea kayak divisions. Paddlers wanting a competitive race will traverse the 10-mile course, while recreational paddlers will take the eight-mile course. Both include exciting Class I-II rapids and conclude at Riverside Park. Timing officials will be provided by Georgia Canoeing Association.

  • Paddle for a Purpose. Don't let your participation stop at the river's edge. Join us today by asking your friends, family and colleagues to sponsor you for every mile you race in the 8- or 10- mile course. Whether it’s $5, $10, or $20 a mile - your efforts will allow us to continue our mission of preserving and protecting the Chattahoochee River for the 3.5 million Georgian’s who depend on it.

THE FESTIVAL at Riverside Park, 10am to 2pm, is free and family-friendly. Racers and others will enjoy live music plus Riverside Park’s “spray ground,” face painting, balloon artists and other family-friendly activities, as well as vendors and an array of environmental exhibits.

Awards will be presented in all categories at the conclusion of the race, including awards for Best Costume and Best Boat Decoration. The race also includes a Team Challenge as a way to build pride, morale and camaraderie among groups such as companies, schools, and clubs. Race fans can cheer on their favorite crafts from several locations: Island Ford, Don White Park and the take out. As a special treat for racers only, paddlers will be greeted at the end of the course by the SweetWater Beer Barge (UCR’s own pontoon boat). Paddlers can enjoy sodas, water, or a SweetWater brew (for patrons 21 and over carrying a valid ID) before going ashore.

Advanced registration is available April 19 through June 7TH for the fee of $40 for solo boats and $60 for tandem boats. After June 4, onsite registration costs are $50 for solo and $70 for tandem boats and will be available based on capacity. All registered paddlers will receive a gift bag, a race T-shirt, a boxed lunch, and a one-year membership in UCR. Proceeds go to support UCR’s mission to protect and preserve the Chattahoochee River system for the people and wildlife that depend upon it.

I joined this group after registering for the race so I wasn't counted. Two other friends of mine from the newnan paddlers group did the same....

    Tammy,
How many "official" or properly recorded AAP members showed up? We had almost 50 signed up on the two sites but that does not mean they all registered with you.

    • Tammy L

I tried telling the registration folks I was with AAP but the volunteer told me they weren't keeping track of it.

      June 17, 2013

    • Tammy B.

Sorry Tammy L that they said that. There were 16 that put AAP on their registration. 17 now if you count this comment. Still won hands down.

Hi Tracy! If you have an official registration, then yes. This meet up is just an unofficial way for the AAP group to see who else will be at the event. See you in the morning!

David, even though I will not be there this year, our group is usually there when the doors open. If you get there much later than very early you are at the back of the line. Boats are launched 4 at a time. Takes a long time to launch 300 boats. I am sure Wonder Woman's boat will be very near the front of the line.
