McGinnis Ferry to Jones Bridge

Let's paddle from McGinnis Ferry, one of our newest put-ins, to Jones Bridge--Gwinnett Side. This is an easy 10-mile trip suitable for paddlers of all levels. The only real shoals are at the takeout; other than that it's easy going. We are a social group but you must paddle while talking--this is not a float trip!

The weather will probably be warm but smart paddlers will bring extra clothing just in case it isn't.

Note that you do need to bring your own boat, paddle, and PFD.

We'll meet at 9:00 AM at McGinnis Ferry to drop boats then drivers only will shuttle cars to Jones Bridge. Shuttlers should be back to McGinnis by 9:45.

We often stop for beer and snacks after paddling. All are welcome to join. Please bring dry clothes if you think you'll need them.

If you have questions or need more information please contact Glen Smith,[masked], [masked]. If I don't have your email address and phone number please get them to me so that I can contact you if there are any late changes.

It's not the showers so much, it's the "thunder" in thunderstorms keeping me away. Will see y'all in better weather. :-)

O Meg, i don't like lightning storms, either. That's why i wear RUBBER earplugs.

I see in your profile that you enjoy whitewater; you might want to "like" Georgia Canoe Association on Facebook. Despite its name, it's mostly a whitewater group, and they have paddles every weekend.

We'll miss everyone but this paddle's probably not for us. We need some different boats!

Hey Suzi - you've answered lots of questions but I have one more. We have whitewater kayaks only (Daggers), so if this is easy water, may not be a good fit. Could you please give me your opinion? Thanks.

    • Glen S.

Hi Melanie - this section has a very gentle current in some places and is more like a lake than a river in others. Several people on this trip will paddle crossover boats.

    • Glen S.

I don't wan't to discourage you but if you're paddling a play boat or similar you probably won't be happy paddling this section.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
