    Make a big splash at the coolest event this summer, the Sixth Annual Summer Splash! Float in a kayak, canoe or raft and beat the heat in your six-mile journey of discovery down the Chattahoochee River.

    Your River Journey
    With daytime temperatures heating up, Summer Splash offers a day of cool relief. Paddle and drift past the river's natural grandeur; witness a great blue heron in flight or the riffles of a river otter swimming. Plan on your river journey taking approximately 3 hours, depending on the rivers current and how much time is actually spent paddling! After completing the float enjoy an afternoon of music, food, and fun for the entire family at the Powers Island festivities.

    Shuttle Bus
    Two shuttle bus routes will operate during the Summer Splash. The shuttle bus transporting boaters from the MEAG Power parking lot to Morgan Falls Dam will operate from 9 a.m. to noon. The shuttle bus transporting boaters from Powers Island back to your vehicle at the MEAG Power parking lot will operate from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Missing the last shuttle to your vehicle will result in a half mile walk, don't miss it!

    Boat Renters
    Once you have registered for the Summer Splash make arrangements to rent a canoe, kayak, or raft from one of the parks authorized outfittersMake your boat reservations early! On the day of the Summer Splash you must park your vehicle at the MEAG Power parking lot, 1470 River Edge Parkway, Sandy Springs (map), and catch the free shuttle bus to Morgan Falls Dam.

    The outfitter will meet you at Morgan Falls Dam and provide you with a boat, paddles, and U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs). Upon completing the Summer Splash please clear the boat landing area as quickly as possible returning your rental equipment to the outfitter at Powers Island! Relax and enjoy the activities at Powers Island before catching the free shuttle back to your vehicle.

    Boat Owners
    Bring your boat, paddles, U.S. Coast Guard approved Personal Flotation Devices (PFDs), and any other items you plan on taking with you to Morgan Falls Dam (map). After dropping off any passengers and your equipment at Morgan Falls Dam park your vehicle at the MEAG Power parking lot, 1470 River Edge Parkway, Sandy Springs (map),and return on the free shuttle bus. The last return shuttle to Morgan Falls Dam is noon and there is no parking at Morgan Falls Dam! Upon completing the Summer Splash please clear the boat landing area as quickly as possible of all your equipment! Relax and enjoy the activities at Powers Island before catching the free shuttle back to your vehicle.

    The Summer Splash is a great event for all ages designed to introduce people to America’s First National Water Trail, the Chattahoochee River  and encourage them to experience the fun and beauty of floating the river.

    The Summer Splash is an opportunity to learn more about the natural history of the river and its importance.  The Summer Splash provides a safe, convenient way for families and individuals to discover the fantastic fun of simply spending a summer afternoon floating along the Chattahoochee River.

    Imagine a Great Blue Heron taking wing; Beaver, Otter, and Muskrat tracks in the soft earth at river’s edge; or an Osprey’s call from high overhead.

    Now imagine you drifting along the river’s gentle currents with the summer breeze slipping over the cool river.  Learn more about the river from National Park Service volunteers at information stations along the way.

    The Splash begins with folks parking their cars at Riveredge Office Park adjacent to Powers Island and riding a shuttle bus to Morgan Falls Park.

    Information :

    Please park at MEAG Power, located in Rivers Edge which is near the Powers Island unit (1470 Riveredge Parkway NW, Sandy Springs, GA  30328).

    Driving directions are listed below. There will be a shuttle provided from 8:30 a.m. - noon to take you to the Morgan Falls Dam where the float begins.

    If you have your own boat, you may drop your boat off at Morgan Falls Dam and then park at Rivers Edge.

    · Following the float, a shuttle will be provided to take you from Powers Island to your car at the MEAG Power parking lot.  The last shuttle from Powers Island leaves at 5:00 p.m.

    • For your safety, there will be a number of park rangers and volunteers in boats stationed along various areas of the river. Should you need any assistance, it will be provided for you.
    • If you do not have a boat, contact any one of the outfitters to rent a canoe, kayak, or raft for the day (located on the back side of the letter); the park does not provide boats.
    • Bring water, sunscreen, snacks, optional hat and sunglasses.  Glass is not permitted on the river and, please, no Styrofoam coolers.
    • Life jackets are a requirement on the river. Each person in the boat must have Coast Guard approved Life Jacket, (Personal Flotation Device (PFD) and children under 13 years of age must wear their Life Jacket (PFD) while on the river.

    DRIVING DIRECTIONS:

    MEAG Power, Rivers Edge Parking (near Powers Island) 1470 Riveredge Parkway NW, Sandy Springs, GA  30328

    Driving Eastbound on I-285 - Take exit 22, Northside Drive, New Northside Drive, Powers Ferry Road.

    · Go to second traffic light and turn left onto New Northside Drive

    · Use the through lane to pick up Interstate North Parkway.

    · Rivers Edge complex will be .5 miles on the right before the river.  Follow signs to the MEAG Power building, 1470 Riversedge Parkway.

    Driving Westbound on I-285 - Take exit 22, Northside Drive, New Northside Drive, Powers Ferry Road.

    · Right on to New Northside Drive.

    · Use the through lane to pick up Interstate North Parkway

    · Rivers Edge complex will be .5 miles on the right before the river.  Follow signs to the MEAG Power building, 1470 Riversedge Parkway.

     

    Everyone then floats in their rafts, canoes, kayaks, or on paddle boards the six miles to Powers Island.  At Powers Island they will be assisted in exiting the river and directed to carry their craft to the parking area.

    There will be food, music, a bubble creation station, a recycle station, wonderful wildlife programs, and information exhibits in and around the pavilion area at Powers Island.

    When you are ready to leave, a shuttle bus will transport you from the festival back to your car.

    Venders will be located adjacent to the pavilion to accept rental watercraft returns and everyone using their own boats will use the convenient loading area at Powers Island.
