Cleaning up the Etowah

This will be a 9 mile cleanup on the section of the Etowah we will be paddling for the Wine & Cheese kayak trip (Etowah Scenic River Park on Hwy 9 to Kelly Bridge). Trash bags and pickers will be provided and I'll be towing a jon boat behind my kayak for the trash. Loppers and a chain saw will also be in the jon boat. A cleanup on a section this long usually takes some time so bring a good lunch and plenty to drink.

We'll park most of the vehicles at Kelly Bridge so if you need to leave before the group finishes you can paddle on.

This river section is very gentle and suitable for beginners. One thing about a cleanup is that you get a lot of practice getting in and out of your kayak and really learn how to move it around on moving water.

Canoes welcome on this trip.

Each person needs to have $3.00 to pay for using the take out on private property at Kelly Bridge.

Wow well done guys!!!! I know what a mammoth task that must have been with those huge strainers and the resultant collection of debris and trash that had accumulated there!!
Thank you for all your hard work!!!
I thought of you all as I headed up the 400 and then onto Dawsonville highway on my way to Toccoa.
I can imagine how chilling it must have been Linda because the air was not the warmest up that way, and being wet too......brrrrrrrrrr!

This comes with a big ((hug)) and thank you to you all for your hard work and dedication to keeping the Etowah such a beautiful and accessible paddling river. I promise I will try to be out there to help you next time.

Margot, there was once when Richard's chain saw got stuck, and we were both working on the same log, and both shaking from the cold, with no options.

Who was the mysterious 4Th person? I have to ask LOL ...
Hey, it's that kind of effort that makes good times on the Etowah possible. Think of how many folks this year alone, especially with the high water, experienced the outdoors and paddling for the first time! Plus the NEAR & DEAR ETOWAH RIVER! Thanks for your efforts!

Steve, she says she hopes too. I didn't ask about cleanups specifically though LOL.

Hi. Awake for a few minutes. After about 5 hours in the water, I'm tired, but warm. Paddling with friends is always a reward in itself.

A blast as always. Next time I'm wearing a wetsuit! I haven't been that chilled in a while. That cup of coffee at Waffle House was the best coffee in forever. Like Richard, pictures will have to wait til tomorrow.

The 10 hour event was great. The location was last minute changed to the 4.5 mile section between Hwy 53 and the Hwy 9 Etowah Scenic River Park near Dawsonville that now looks like a new river. Unfortunately time and energy ran out cutting strainers and deadfalls so there is still some work to be done but not much. Lots of trash removed. Four attended the event which totaled 40 man-hours cleaning and clearing a beautiful and scenic river thanks to those who attended.

Prior commitment on the Chestatee for Saturday, already paid for, or I'd join in on the fun and effort ... Enjoy!

      Allen, with a group?

Yes, with Georgia Adventurers Group ... first paddle with this group and on that river. It was originally for last Saturday but got rained out so it was rescheduled for tomorrow. Good thing about the rain is the rivers are up which I like!

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
