Re: [kayaking-177] Possibility of organizing a trip down the OconeeRiver (Athens area) - Its mild all the way down to the Ocmulgee, to my knowledge the only major rapid like feature of the river lies in Milledgeville where an area of the main river splits off and runs through an old man made like mill and then ties back into ma Eric M. Re: [kayaking-177] Possibility of organizing a trip down the OconeeRiver (Athens area) - I live near the Oconee in Oconee county. I also would like to do a trip on the river. So far I have done a short upstream paddle (that's how mild it has been lately) from the Barnett Shoals Road bridge, then down below the bridge toward the Barnett Shoa Steve B. Oct 15, 2008 10:53 AM
Re: [kayaking-177] Possibility of organizing a trip down the OconeeRiver (Athens area) - The Oconee is a generally mild river, with a few shoals here and there. At very high water, those cause the loss of 'n', i.e., the river becomes more like the Ocoee. At the moment, it is nearly dry, so the issue is moot. I've run several sections of Steve C.
