I did a comparison of Joomla forums at the users' group a while back. It mainly depends on what features you want: text-only vs. the ability to add photos, etc. The two most fully-featured native Joomla forums are probably Kunena and Agora, see: and
In looking around their sites, it looks like Agora has a specific JomSocial plugin (with pro memebership) at:
so I'd probably recommend looking at Agora first.
