Re: [opensource-91] Has anyone added a Forum to a Joomla Site ?

I have been doing a lot of anti-spam work on a pretty popular forum that runs on SMF.  It's not integrated with joomla at all, but I wanted to point out how difficult it is to fight the spam beast, even with this fully featured, robustly supported forum software.  I wonder what that would be like with a Joomla extension.  Just make sure that you consider all of the capabilities of the software before you commit.

Brian,

I did a comparison of Joomla forums at the users' group a while back. It mainly depends on what features you want: text-only vs. the ability to add photos, etc. The two most fully-featured native Joomla forums are probably Kunena and Agora, see:
http://www.kunena.org/ and http://anything-digital.com/agora/a-forum-bulletin-board-for-joomla.html
In looking around their sites, it looks like Agora has a specific JomSocial plugin (with pro memebership) at:
http://anything-digital.com/agora/add-ons.html
so I'd probably recommend looking at Agora first.

Just wondering if anyone here has used any of the extensions to add a forum to Joomla
based site?  I am doing an Alumni Community using JomSocial but also wanted to add
a Forum for reunion interactions.  I am just trying to get some input on what is out there
as some of the reviews looked like they where written by their competition WE all know
that would never happen though LOL .
Thanks
