Which ruby are you running?

There is a "funny falcon performance patch" that can be applied to several recent versions that makes a large difference in the most time-consuming part of booting Rails: gem loading.

It is unclear to me if 1.9.3_p385 has incorporated the concepts of the falcon patch by default.  I think Andy Lindeman was looking into that?   If anyone knows for sure, please post.

I've got a long-in-the-tooth Rails project that was born in Rails 1.2.3 and is now on 3.1 Over the years, the startup time has gotten worse and worse, and now it's pretty unbearable, taking about 20-30s to boot the server, boot the console, or start running specs.

Does anyone know a way to instrument where the time is being spent on startup? It may be that it's not worth dealing with, but if I have some way-old plugin or something that's bogging everything down, that would be nice to know.

Thanks,
Micah
