Samaritan House offers meals, counseling and other services to homeless clients. It operates Cafe 458 as a restaurant open to the public for Sunday brunch. Cafe 458 is staffed with volunteers and all proceeds and tips benefit Samaritan House. Volunteers are needed as cooks, servers and hosts. Please contact Alison SMith at [masked] for more info. She is very interested in having meetup groups sign up to volunteer to help out.
Cafe 458 is managed by Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency, a nonprofit agency whose mission is to empower homeless individuals in the Greater Atlanta community to achieve economic self sufficiency and their ultimate potential to thrive in life. Annually, Atlanta Center for Self Sufficiency offers services to over 700 men and women through three core programs: Cafe 458, a life stabilization program and restaurant for disabled homeless men and women; CareerWorks, an employment readiness programs that support homeless individuals in their efforts to find full-time permanent employment; and the Clean Street Team, a transitional employment and training program which engages homeless men and women in various beautification, grounds maintenance and cleaning projects throughout the metro Atlanta area.
The shift is 9am to 3pm. The entire shift is mandatory. If you decide to volunteer, please set aside this time for this volunteer opportunity. There will only be 10 new service positions available so sign up as soon as you can. If you can not serve in the cafe, please come out and support Cafe 458 and our volunteers by dining in.
Hi Roz and volunteers! I was really looking forward to volunteering at Cafe 458 tomorrow, but I believe something was lost in translation as far as signing up. I thought step 1 of RSVPing would hold my spot and commit me to working tomorrow. When I clicked the link above to register for Sunday, the only opportunities to sign-up were for March and beyond. Roz I saw your email and replied to Allison at Cafe 458 only to receive the following reply:
Good morning Maria,
After not getting enough responses before I left work Friday, I spent all day looking for other volunteers.
I believe we have enough people now. You're welcome to join us for brunch instead.
Thank you,
Alison
Roz I just wanted to let you know that I never want you to be left "holding the bag" or sully the Atlanta Volunteers name. This has been on my calendar for weeks and there may be others like me who were not clear on sign up for this particular event.
@ Maria....I'm sorry that the communication was not clear. I try to communicate with the volunteers & let them know everything that's going on. Alison sent out emails as well. She was excited because she had 15 volunteers who were going to serve but only 2 initially confirmed the volunteering for Sunday and some people had to drop out at the last minute. I was disappointed because I thought it was all set. I want the volunteers & the organizations we commit to serve have a good experience.

I injured my back so my activities will be limited this weekend. I've updated my reply to NO. I will see if anyone is able to attend and help out. Thanks!
