About the Talk
The visual principles of harmony, unity, contrast, emphasis, variety, balance, proportion, pattern and direction (and others) are widely recognized and practiced, even when they aren't formally articulated. But creating a good design doesn't automatically mean creating a good experience.
In order for us to cultivate positive experiences for our users, we need to establish a set of guiding principles for experience design. Guiding principles are the broad philosophy or fundamental beliefs that steer an organization, team or individual's decision making, irrespective of the project goals, constraints, or resources.
In this talk, Whitney will share a universally-applicable set of experience design principles that we should all strive to follow, and will explore how you can create and use your own guiding principles to take your product to the next level.

Sorry for the late comment, but this talk was AMAZING!!! Very glad I attended this one. Whitney Hess did a fantastic job and I loved how she used tangible every day life examples. Puts things into perspective and gets us out of the "web site" example mentality that most of us are in 10 hours a day!! Great job!!

Fantastic presentation, as Whitney's always are. I thought the visuals were perfect illustrations, and examples, of the various principles; and the principles themselves were well-explained and usable. Also helpful stuff in creating specific principles in organizations, and I think she gave a great addition to those things with the questions and answers.

Wonderful presentation of things every designer should take into consideration.

To tell the truth, I didn't find anything really new in the presentation. (New labels for old, time-tested ideas.) But it was amusing and others seemed to like it a lot. (Pizza was tasty!)

The talk was educational and entertaining. The visual aides really nailed what Ms. Hess was saying and drove the point home. I can see why people listen to her. Excellent job!

J. and Farhan put together a great event, with a fantastic speaker. This was my first time coming to a Meetup, but it was well worth the 1.5 hour drive!
Can't wait for next month's!

Awesome. I am not designer but a recruiter. I felt that she broke it down to where I can better understand the UX experience.

This was Awesome. I am glad to start going back to these events and this one was a great one to start with as it restated a lot of the overarching principles of good design as well as looked at UX fundamentals, and how they drive a good user experience

I've been informed that only goofy tourists say Hotlanta. Well, I'm a goofy tourist!

I'm really excited to join you all for a fun night out! Hopefully we can make this more of a discussion than a formal presentation. The more I can learn from all of you, the better I'll be able to communicate on this topic to others. Can't wait to get to Hotlanta!
