Using Email Marketing to Drive Traffic to your Website

Atlanta Web Entrepreneurs July 2008 Meetup

Format

This month we are going to do about 40 minutes of presentations -- two (2) ~20 minutes each -- and then an hour of Q&A. UNLIKE most months, since the attendance looks like it will be small enough, We'll start with some group discussion and introductions.

Focus

We are business focused but technically informative. The focus will be primarily on business issues and strategies, but can also move into the technical realm when and where applicable.

Topics

  • Sandi Karchmer Solow of I Send Your Email will present Email Marking 101, or "Things to consider when launching an email marketing program."

  • Ben Chestnut Co-Founder of Mail Chimp will give us an "Entrepreneur Story" regarding his launch of MailChimp and discuss life as an entrepreneur and how he has successfully grown self-funded email service provider MailChimp. If you listen closely he might even let a little of his expertise on email marketing slip out as he tells his story!

    Presenter Bios

    • Sandi Karchmer Solow's background includes forming and implementing strategic marketing programs for a Big Four consulting firm and developing content for CNN.com and CNNSI.com. As an individual consultant she has worked with a loyalty marketing firm in Atlanta to manage the daily aspects of an email marketing program, including list segmentation, tracking the effectiveness of various messages and promotion analysis. She has also worked nonprofits and a small business to develop an email marketing program.

    • Ben Chestnut Ben Chestnut started a web development agency called The Rocket Science Group in April 2000, and was in charge of designing intranets, websites, and other nerdy stuff for clients like Coca-Cola, The Arthritis Foundation, Coleman, and Worldspan. In 2001, The Rocket Science Group launched MailChimp, an email marketing service built for design-it-yourselfers. MailChimp has since grown to over 45,000 users from all over the globe (including Mozilla, New Riders Publishing, and Harvard University), who manage over 77 million subscribers and deliver over 5 million email campaigns a day. Ben is the voice behind the popular MonkeyBrains email marketing blog and the MonkeyWrench tips and tricks newsletter, where he shares his love for email marketing---and monkeys---with thousands of subscribers.

Many thanks to Sandi and to Ben. Sandi gave those of us who were not familiar with Email Marketing best practices some great insight, and Ben's story about launching and building MailChimp was fascinating!
