ASK THE EXPERT!

For May 2008

Prepayment Required

Because of the special format (see below), PREPAYMENT by Paypal IS REQUIRED to attend this event, or you can email me no later than a week in advance and ask for a postal address to mail a check.

For those already RSVPed I'll contact you via email and if I don't get a prepayment I'll remind you with a shout on the Meetup.com meeting page.

NOTE: The meeting is limited to 80 attendees, plus the experts, but many people who RSVPed have not prepaid as requested so I'm opening up to offer 100 seats on a first-firm, first serve basis. Those who prepay get in first and if we have space left, then others can get it.

Format

This month we are going to change it up again. We'll open with a short intro, announcements, and then we'll follow the with four (4) "birds of a feather" sessions where we have 6 or 7 tables with 1 or 2 "experts" per table where each table is devoted to a topic. Starting at 7pm we'll have four (4) 20 minute sessions that will hopefully allow really indepth discussions of each topic which will allow people to visit four (4) of the 6 or 7 topic tables.

The general idea will be to allow members who have specific decisions they need to make to hopefully get come and get the information they need to directly consider those concerns and to form an action plan for their next steps. A secondary idea is to let people get a lot more face-to-face interaction in a semi-guided forum. We'll try to make WiFi available, especially for the experts.

Many of our "experts" may only be available for certain sessions as they may have expertise in more than one area, and they may also want to attend other tables themselves. We'll attempt to finalize the schedule as soon as possible so you can plan early which tables you want to participate in.

Q&A Session Topics & Experts

There are too many session topics (28) and too many experts (over 20) to list them all on this page!
But you can read about them here: Ask the Expert!

Business Focused, Technically Informative

The focus will be primarily on business issues and strategies, but can also move into the technical realm when and where applicable.

I had a great time at this meeting and am glad I had the opportunity to speak with as many people as I did about email marketing. If we didn't chat, please contact me via this site (or Mike Schinkel has my address) and I'd be happy to talk with you about this topic.

Wow. Thank you everyone for all the positive comments, and thanks to our session hosts for participating I couldn't have done it without all 15+ of you. Based on the verbal feedback The event was definitely a hit so there's a real good chance we'll do it again in 6 months.

This new meeting format has a lot of potential. The speakers I met with were a little weak and their mini-lectures were a little short. It was sort of like speed dating--but there was a lot of energy in the room and I met someone who helped me get in touch with a potential client. I would say it was an above average event with a huge potential.

This was a great meeting - one of the best yet, and that is saying something because Mike and crew have been consistently putting together valuable, informative and entertaining sessions. Last night had it all - great content, great energy and a great turnout. Kudos Mike!

Many experts from many different fields meant this Meetup had something for everyone. Can't wait for the next one of this format.

This was a great opportunity to gain practical knowledge on a number of subjects critical to success on the web. Also, as always, this group is the best forum to network with people who are helpful to advance your business.

I really enjoyed this event and its "a la carte" style to the discussion topics. The next one could be made even stronger by giving more than 20 minutes to each topic so each session can delve deeper than surface level considerations, but then, of course, you run into time constraints. Rather than try to cut down the number of sessions (this meetup had 4), maybe it could be held as a half-day event? Don't know if that's realistic or not. Overall, I really enjoyed the wealth of knowledge that was shared, and I can see myself reaching out to some of the discussion leaders individually regarding the areas they felt themselves to be experts on. Great event, and a lot of fun. It's definitely a good sign when the only thing I'd change is for it to have lasted longer! It could also be cool in the future to record some of the discussions at an event like this and post them online for others to learn from...

Informative and enlightening. I eagerly await the next meeting.

GREAT event. Needed a little bit more time per session (20-30 minutes). Maybe start a little earlier in the evening.
