Sideways Wine Party

This will be a continuation of our wines 35 and up and movie themes. This time will be a Merlot or Pinot Noir $35 and up in honor of Sideways!

Bring a bottle of 35 and up Pinot or Merlot and an appetizer/dish that pairs with the wine.

For those that don't know the illustrious special bottle at the end he saved had Merlot in it - some have said it was a Merlot but I can tell you that the wineries website states 40% of their vines are Merlot.

The wines most staying with the movie theme would be Pinot Noir and Merlot from Santa Barbara/Santa Ynez Valley and Merlots from France or Santa Barbara/Santa Ynez Valley but as long as it is a 35 or up Pinot or Merlot it is in!

Sorry guys I'm keeping this small so we can try all the wines. Please post if you are bringing a Pinot Noir or a Merlot Matt and I will provide one of each.

I'm thinking to mix it up an Oregon Pinot Noir.... please bring a dish to share or appetizer to share your choice... we have decided on Newton Unfiltered Merlot and Ponzi Pinot Noir.. the Newton has been again for a while... but I've got a good cellar so it should be extra good... I will also provide a reception wine so we can enjoy wine before doing the tasting... I'm thinking a Cajun turkey and stuffing for what I'm providing.. but not sure yet... don't forget a food item to pair with your wine...see you Saturday

the only thing I can suggest is to put him on the waiting list and if you both get in great.. or I don't know what will happen if you try to change yours... I want to be fair to everyone on this list... if you miss this one not to worry there will be other ones around movies in the new year...

Checking web sites for the 7 wineries in that movie, only two bottle Merlot and sell it as a single varietal. All 7 produce Pinot Noir (obviously) but the second most widely grown red there is Syrah. To a lesser extent they bottle Malbec, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Sirah and Grenache. What Merlots do you suggest we bring? And what Merlots do you already have? We do not need to duplicate wines.
In the movie Miles emphatically stated "...if anyone orders Merlot I am leaving!!"

FYI I will provide a reception wine... so that when we first arrive we have something to drink before we get started...

Remembering the movie, wasn't Miles' side-kick the guy who claimed all those red wines "...taste pretty good to me!" Miles said he was "out of here" if anyone brought Merlot.
