I'm a software engineer (I know, big surprise, eh?) and in my forties. I haven't read much sci-fi lately but would have to list William Gibson as probably my favorite author- followed by Asimov when I am in an old school mood.
I would say I like most all sci-fi movies- I never miss a Star Trek or Lord of the Rings flick when they come out. The last few movies I saw were Oblivion and the latest Riddick film... love Big Bang Theory but haven't seen a lot of it. (We don't normally watch TV at home.) My wife and I tend to pick a series and watch it front-to-end... she loves BSG and even though we have watched it twice all the way through, she is game to do it again.
One I can identify with who seems realistic and believable.
Hm. If there were one populated by nymphomaniac cat-girls who dig middle-aged software engineers, that would suit me fine.
Just a quick search on meetup.com did the trick.
Just relocated to Auckland from Southern Florida in the US- my wife has family here so we moved to be closer to them. Been a life-long sci-fi geek and gamer.
