The July meetup is now confirmed. It will be the first week of July.

Yahoo!Xtra’s Technical Director, Neil (Wilf) Wilkinson, will be talking about: YQL is Yahoo’s SQL-like language that provides straightforward ways to mash up different APIs into one data source for use in applications. The presentation will outline how YQL allows developers to mash HTML pages, publicly available feeds, Yahoo APIs, external APIs and their own data tables into a single query to make the most of almost anything you find on the internet.

In addition Wilf will take you through some of the more innovative APIs that Yahoo! offers, including BOSS (build your own search engine) and Flickr (the world’s largest photo sharing API). There is a Yahoo!Xtra Hack event in the pipeline, but dates and details of this are still a ways off. Keep your eye on the Yahoo! Developer Network website (http://developer.yaho...) for info about developer events as well as blogs and endless useful stuff relating to Yahoo!’s open services.
We will also have James Cooper from vectorstock.com.

"Were at over 200k users now and for me its a developers dream project that's constantly evolving.
Its a massive beast that has a lot more to talk about than just e-commerce."

And last but not least Greg Wood talking about judging the Cannes Cyber Lions. Limited spaces to RSVP below.

I enjoyed all of the presentations. Some of the speakers need to be given instruction of holding the microphone up to their mouth though. It was a little noisy with the guys out the back. This was fixed by someone closing the slide doors. The Vector Stock presentation was quite insightful. It's great learning from their experiences. I thought that James was very open with sharing the details of his business online. Greg Wood was extremely entertaining. We missed a bit of the Yahoo presentation, but what we saw, was also insightful.

Really liked the live demo & Greg was good (although thought his bit could have been done in a shorteer space of time)

The talk from James was great. I had no knowledge of YQL at all or many of the Yahoo services that James discussed so it was very useful.

    * Good variety of speakers - liked having digital marketing, vectorstock. Pleasant deliveries.
    * Had to second guess what the vareity of practical applications/value/benefits of the Yahoo apps/programming were to onliine marketer, client. A strong 'why' needed to be spelt out. Even a developer beside me was reading between the lines as it was not clear. Speaker assumed knoweldge levels of audience. More than developers were in the room so speakers need to cater for that. Dry subject if without context. Want to learn about tech side but needs to be made relevant to onlne marketers when speaking.
    * presentations need to be available for view - are they uploaded into a filesharing service? or somewhere else accessible to all?

I'm always excited by the presenters and these folks were no exception. Great insights on YUI et al, awesome to hear from a kiwi company done good (VectorStock is added to my bookmarks and inspires my own web app project in the works!) and Greg Wood I got to talk to right before he spoke; thx for that last beer, mate!

Varied lineup - Wilf and James were very technical (great for coders, near-gibberish for designers!), but Greg balanced that out with his recap of judging the Cannes Lions advertising awards.
