This month we have a very special (paid meetup).

In return we are you bringing you:

Divya Manian (Sponsored by WDCNZ) from Seattle and here to talk about designing in the browser.  Divya is super active in the web development space and has worked at Opera Software and now at Adobe. She has been involved with a number of open source projects including read more about her here.

The lovely Minnie Baragwan from Be. Accessible - I have asked Minnie to come in and talk about accessibility online, why it makes economic sense and how she copes in a digital world.

Please make sure you check the time and location as these are both different from past meetups.

* The price of the meetup is Australian Dollars ( cannot charge NZD) so this is a touch over $20 NZD.  The price is to pay for venue hire, food and refreshments of the alcoholic kind.

Our first speaker has been flown in by WDCNZ and is one of their keynote speakers. So we are very very lucky to have here in Auckland. We have a quick message below about our speaker sponsor.

WDCNZ is back in Wellington 2 August. Tickets are selling fast, so get in quick! Hear from top-notch talent - Douglas Crockford, Lea Verou, Divya Manian and many more - sharing the secrets of their Web genius at this daylong conference. Check out the full line up and details at See you there!

And one last final note, seating is not guaranteed, we can fit 80 seated, so seating will be first come first served.

Thanks, John.

Great to have meetup again. Hope they are not always going to be on Monday. Happy with the paid arrangement. Pizza quantities great. Found the speakers a bit dull, could be due to Monday.

    Divya's slides are here

Also from an accessibility point of view this is a good place to start for devs, Lots of links in the post and the comments. The WebAIM survey results linked in it make for an interesting read.....

Great food, great topics, with great speakers. Having a deeper and more technical and full-of-code session for the responsive design will be better for me, though. Love the accessibility session, though.

Great meeting, my first visit to a web meetup and looking forward to more of them. It would be interesting to run some roundtables on how the Auckland web community can apply some of Divya's tools & design-in-the-browser approach to our processes, and how that approach could help us cover Minnie's accessibility suggestions as well. In many ways it sounds like just another set of device targets with unique requirements.

Thanks for a great meetup. Both speakers convinced very much as they had both very relevant things to say. Would have loved more technical depths with regads to how to develop accessible web content. But once again: Great meetup.

Really enjoyed seeing everyone! The beer and pizza were awesome! I didn't really get much out of the talks though... The first one had a good topic, but it did not in my eyes cover the topic very well. The second talk was great; a very energetic, passionate and lovely women that is dedicated to making a change with how accessibility is approached. However it would of been good to have someone assit her in identifying the best ways we as designers and developers can be making a difference online.

Great meetup. New format was agreeable. Sals Pizza great. Good idea to start with Pizza. Better time at 7pm too. Great speakers. Loved Minnie's presentation.

Couple of minuses: Screen was hard to see from the back, as it's relatively low. Not sure what can be done to improve that. Maybe bring the screen forward and use more width for seating.

Are there online slides available from both the presentations from Divya and Minnie?

Thanks to the speakers, you were great. Cool venue too although the acoustics of the room were a bit funky and made it a bit tricky to hear at times. But other than that awesome!
