Pacific Crest Trail @ Boreal Ski Resort (map)
Alright snow...where are you???
This snowshoe meetup is scheduled in HOPES there will be some snow by then! We have done this trail before and it always gives nice scenery and miles of hiking
We will be meeting in the parking lot and hitting the trail at 9am SHARP. Please be ready to go by then. It's hard to keep excited aussies contained for long!
Alot of information here. So please read and email me for any questions:
Directions to Castle Peak Trail
Highway 80 East Bound
Exit Boreal/Castle Peak (turn right toward ski resort)
Turn left at "dead end" which will take you toward the Pacific Crest Trail (approx 1/4 mile)
You will pass the Boreal Inn on your right hand side
Stay to the right of the road and you will see a small parking lot entrance on the right.
Info About Parking/Location:
1) You will need to purchase a Sno Park day pass or you will get a ticket. You may get them at Boreal Inn, that you will pass on the way to the parking lot area, or you can get them at any REI Store. They DO ticket if you don't have a pass..and the fine is steep.
2) There are 3 portal potties at the parking lot. Trail is moderate but can change with any storm and is approx 2.5 miles one way with a nice view of Donner Lake at the top. However, you can turn around and go back at anytime.
Info about Snow Shoe Rental:
REI offers snow shoeing rentals for a very reasonable price. They suggest reserving them NOW in case there is a big snow dump, which they would likely run out of rentals.
Dress warm, but more importantly, in layers. Bring water and a snack for the trail. We take breaks to hydrate and rejuvenate!
Plan to hit the trail at 9:00am sharp. I usually get there about 830am, to get the dogs ready and ourselves ready. I will have paw protective Mushers Cream for your dogs paws if you'd like to borrow some. Mushers Cream helps prevents icey/cold paws/pads. Good stuff! Dogs can run off leash on this trail, but as always we will be considerate of other hikers/passerbys.
I will be checking the weather the entire week before hand to make sure there are no big snow storms to hinder road conditions. Stay tuned as the time gets closer for updates.
This will be our only snowshoe meetup for the year... it would be great to have some new members join us and catch the "snowshoeing bug". Ok, with that said, everyone start doing your fanciest snow dance ...C'mon snow!!
See you there
not sure if we will make it,but looks good for some snow for you that are going ! FINALLY !!!!!
I would love to go but unfortunately I always work on Saturdays. Do you ever hold events on Sunday or Monday?
Is anyone carpooling up to boreal or has room for a minnie and owner
This sounds like so much fun, but Indy doesnt have great off-leash recall, and Im worried he would be more interested in running around and playing than anything else...
Indy can be leashed and still enjoy the hike...in case you still wanted to join us

Poor Leo. His person doesn't ski or otherwise enjoy snow so he won't be going on this meet up.
