I've lived in Austin for 18 years with a four year detour to NM and back. Before Austin, I lived and worked in Dallas for ten years. I grew up in Lubbock, graduated from Texas Tech with a degree in English (for no good reason other than enjoying literature), and have lived in New Haven, CT, Washington, D.C., Santa Fe, NM.
I prefer writers who develop characters, places, and story arcs fully, and who do so using strong plot lines that keep me engaged and eager to know more.
How can one answer this question? I have enjoyed the works of John Irving, Richard Russo, Salmon Rushdi, Ann Patchett, Bill Bryson, David Mitchell, Tom Rachman, Rebecca Skloot, Helen Simpson, Paula Mclain, Simon Mawer, John La Carre, and many others.
I enjoy contemporary and historic fiction. I occasionally read thrillers and sci-fi, but don't read purely romantic or erotic books.

Hello nice book people, I'm an avid reader of fiction and non-fiction and would enjoy more face to face discussions about good literature. This club seems like a diverse, inclusive group with excellent choices of books to read and share, so I'm in!
