Discussion: Code from concept to production

Previous to our July 8th, SaltStack bonanza, the group decided that process was a discussion worth having.  I have been thinking hard about how to facilitate this and am suggesting the following format.  Please let me know what you think:

  • 2 hour meeting
    • 3-5 10 minute talks on how code goes from concept to production at your shop in terms of process. The goal here is not a tools talk but a process talk.
    • 3-5 Q&A sessions of 10 minutes to follow each talk.
  • Beer and grub at a place near the meeting point.

I am getting this out early to solicit feedback on the idea.  If you are interested in one of the 10 minute slots I would love to hear from you.

I am not going to set a place until I get some positive feed back on this idea.

The other suggestion is to hit a bar that is good for conversation and simply discuss this informally.

The goal here is to reap topics from the explained processes that we want to dive deeper into and build future meeting agendas from that.

I look forward to your comments and offers of talks and will do get out details of form and place by July 31.

This was an excellent opportunity to compare and contrast three different approaches to how code is developed and deployed, and I really appreciate the speakers ability and willingness to discuss things that they felt need improvement and what lessons they might want to take away from the other speakers. Thanks!

Great to see everyone there and talk with them! If you want to get more of the nitty gritty on our DevOps processes, I blog it up at theagileadmin.com.

Heh. Freaking work is getting in the way of our discussions about...work! :-)

Even though I really would like to make this, I think I'm going to end up with a work conflict.

Thank you to my new employer for allowing us use of the facility. I am thrilled to have so many offers of hosting, and I will work to ensure we move this around to avail the group of these offers.

Thanks to everyone and I look forward to seeing you Monday.

Pizza will be provided, beer is a maybe at this point.

Ernest and I will be doing 5 to 10 min informal process demos (think whiteboard, not keyboard). If you would like to talk, please let me know when you arrive. If there is a build engineer out there that would be idea.

Pretty sure I can make it and I'd be happy to share my extensive experiences as a build engineer.

I can bring beer and talk. I am at a new startup so I have been working on this exact issue. CI on the cheap!

If Gaute from IQumulus is not already hosting the event, we at mobi are interested in hosting this or the next event. We are downtown at 6th and Congress.

Hi Eric, we are not hosting after all. Our facilities are limited to approx.15 attendees. We are located at 9th and Brazos. Good luck.

    I'll do a slot!

I think a non-bar situation is better, process discussion demands whiteboarding!

We would love to host it at our downtown offices, how many do we expect?
