Pedernales Falls State Park

Let's enjoy winter with a nice weekend at Pedernales Falls!

This 5000+ acre park borders some very scenic stretches of the Pedernales River and has six miles of river frontage, as well as the rugged and picturesque falls area. Activities include hiking trails, mountain biking, fishing, bird watching, swimming (the water will be cold, but I'll jump in if you will), and horseback riding. Sorry, horses are not allowed to camp overnight at this park.

I will arrive Saturday morning to grab a good site.  I plan on hiking at 1pm on Saturday.

We don't expect a burn ban, so bring firewood and we'll light 'er up! Please use the message board to discuss food planning.

COST: The campsite cost comes to $6 per person. Please pay upon arrival.

You will also need to pay an entrance/activity/parking fee of $7/person per night at the gate.

PARKING: Only two cars are allowed at each site — others will have to park in the overflow parking area, which is a good little walk from the campsites. When you arrive, expect to unload your gear and go park your car. We will arrange it so that someone can follow you to park your vehicle in the overflow area and give you a ride back to the site.

Save some gas and parking spaces, please use our message board to arrange carpooling.

SHOWERS/TOILETS: Yes. Restrooms with and without showers are near the campsites.

KID FRIENDLY: Yes. Please read our policy on camping with children.

DOG FRIENDLY: Yes. Park rules require that all dogs must be attended and on a six-foot leash at all times. When we are in certain unpopulated areas, upon everyone's agreement, we may let the dogs play off-leash. Please read our policy on camping with dogs.

RV CAMPING: These sites will accommodate an RV up to 35 feet. However, the sites I have reserved will be for tents only. If you wish to bring an RV, please reserve your own site and expect to arrive early Friday afternoon so you can get a spot near our group.

DIRECTIONS: The park may be reached by traveling 9 miles east of Johnson City on FM 2766 or by traveling west of Austin for 32 miles on US Highway 290, then north on FM 3232 for 6 miles. Google Map.

I won't rsvp because I can't make it Saturday night. However, I am hiking
early Sunday and considering Pedernales. I mean early, before 8 anyway.
There was a trail close to the birding station I'd like to find if it still exists.
Or the trails above the falls. But I don't know how I would find you guys at
    7:30 ish AM Sunday.
BTW, one of these weekends when the weather gets reliable-er I'd sure like to do two nights at enchanted rock.

I'll probably be waking up from my heavy slumber with some hot coffee at 7:30. I have a big, funny looking white school bus. Finding us won't be a problem.

I have a question. I just called the park and all sites are reserved, except primitive, and I was planning on getting a site together because I have a converted short school bus to stay in. It's great for chillin out in with the heater if it got a bit cold for anyone. If only two vehicles are allowed per site would it be ok if I was one of those cars and I'll be more than happy to pay for the site? I'll bring tons of firewood too. I'm trying to bribe : ) And it's just me now, my girlfriend is not feeling well enough for camping so there is another spot available. Just email me or comment here if you would please.

You should be the second car based on the arrival times so it shouldn't be a problem at all. :) And even if you aren't the second car, I'm sure we can work something out for the night. I don't HAVE to park at the site. I just need to unload/load. I hope your gf feels better.

Awesome, I'll be there! I'm really excited because I hardly EVER have to chance to do anything like this any more, it's been too long. I'd love red beans, what can I bring besides firewood?

      January 25, 2013

  • Jessica

fyi - I'm making red beans and rice for dinner to share if anyone is interested.

I'll be there if it doesn't plan on being below "too cold"...

Jason, the firewood would be great. I will plan on being there earlier to get the campsite.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
