Aquaponics and the heat

Getting ready for summer can be daunting. We will discuss all of the ways to beat the heat and let your aquaponics become an oasis. We have successfully over-summered and over-wintered tomatoes in a greenhouse at the Sustain Center (next to Callahan’s) using the aquaponics systems as the life support. Come learn the tactics that will keep it cool.

Water use and watering restrictions have really put a damper on the overwatered gardens in Austin. Recirculating systems can give you the productivity you expect with a very small, reused piece of water. Whether you want a densely stocked tilapia pond or a serene koi pond, the value of aquaponic water conservation is huge.

We will be discussing the enhanced nutritional content of aquaponic produce and will demonstrate fish-safe fertilizers that include selenium and iodine. These are not usually in fertilizers and therefore these critical thyroid nutrients are missing from most produce. Recirculating systems keep these water soluble nutrients instead of running off making fertilization with iodine and selenium practical.

Great workshop, learned alot but would have liked more info on types of fish and the temperatures they work best in, ways to heat or cool your tanks in the safest manner possible to reduce the risk of loosing fish due to sudden weather changes.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
