Who taught you how to knit/crochet and how long have you been doing it?

I think my friend Jaime taught me when we were 16, but I don't even think that she knits any more. I remember going to Walmart and buying bright blue aluminium needles and what must have been the most icky, scratchy, variegated blue acrylic which I turned into a small, ugly scarf. I knit off and on until about four or five years ago when the habit really kicked into high gear. Now if I don't touch a project for a few days I start to feel a little "off".

What's your favorite fiber?

Wool, but I'm allergic to the cheap stuff.

If you were stranded on a deserted island with loads of cashmere and rosewood needles (or hooks), what would you make?

Do I have to knit my own shelter and clothes? ;) If not, I'd probably start with one of those impossibly delicate lace shawls that are gorgeous but I'll never have the wherewithal to actually make myself.

For you, does knitting/crocheting seem like it's going to be a passing fancy or a lifelong passion? (Hint: If you've been doing it for more than 3 years, I think we already have your answer.) :)

Definitely a lifelong hobby!

I'm Lauren, I moved to Austin about a week and a half ago! Love knitting and hoping to meet new people who love playing with yarn too. You can find me on Ravelry as aletheia (which means "truth" in Greek)
