Austin Creative Reuse!

Hello friends,

Some of you know that I have been working with a group to get a creative reuse center started in Austin. (Think Habitat Restore but with art/craft supplies and other reusable donations.) Down the road we will host classes, possibly an art gallery or tool lending library. We have a pretty big chunk of work away from opening the doors, but are having our first meeting to spread the word this Thursday.

There are 3 ways you can help us out:
1st and most important- please spread the word to other folks who might be interested
2nd - fill out a very short survey to help us gauge interest in the center and volunteering
3rd - come to the meeting Thursday

But mainly send us good vibes for the work ahead.

Community Meeting:
Come find out about Austin Creative Reuse and how you can be a part of this new community organization.

When: Thursday November 5th, 2009 7pm
Where: The AAMP 411 Warehouse: 411 Monroe St
Directions: google map:

Mission: Austin Creative Reuse is dedicated to fostering conservation and re-use through creativity, education and community building.

Vision: Austin Creative Reuse will collect materials* from local businesses and individuals. These materials will be made available for purchase for artistic and re-purpose activities. In addition, these materials will be used in workshops and outreach programs that stimulate creativity and create awareness of conservation. We will collaborate with art teachers and art organizations to promote the use of these materials instead of purchasing new materials.

* Materials can include craft materials, art supplies, vintage goodies, and other unique items. We will collect clean, safe, reusable industrial discards as well as new, finished products that are no longer needed by businesses.

National Creative Reuse Centers

approximately 20 Creative Reuse Centers are thriving nationally, here are several of our favorites:

Creative Reuse – Chicago, IL - - founded 1977

Scrap – San Francisco, CA - - founded 1976

Scrap Action – Portland, OR - - founded 1997

Scrap Exchange - Durham, NC - - founded 1991
