November meeting

"Short Queries Optimization" presented by Henrietta Dombrovskaya.

Henrietta is a database researcher and developer with over 25
years of academic and industrial experience. She taught Database and Transaction theory at the University of Saint - Petersburg (Russia), at the Computer Systems Institute in Skokie, IL and at Spherion Consulting in Chicago. Her professional experience includes consulting for a number of government projects in Chicago and New York, and providing IT services in the financial sector, manufacturing, and distribution. She is a co-author, with B. Novikov, of the book "System Tuning", BHV, S.-Petersburg, Russia.

This presentation is based on the chapter "Short Queries and Indexes" from that book, adapted for Postgres specifics. Different index types and query rewriting which prompts the usage of specific indexes will be discussed.
