The Austin Python Meetup Monthly Meetup

We typically have a main presentation or a series of lightning talks, followed by discussion and Q&A.  There is a diversity of domains and experience levels represented, so come with your questions and be prepared to talk about how you use Python!

The Capital Factory is now offering discounted parking in the Omni Parking lot. If you park after 6 p.m it is just $5 dollars for the night. Just remember to grab a validation ticket at the end of meetup from Capital Factory staff.

Great talks by both Steve and the team at StepOne. Thank you for those.

[Shameless plug] At AlienVault we are focused on solving one problem - the bad guys share information and ideas, whereas the good guys are all isolated in their silos. Our Open Threat Exchange (OTX) serves as this source of information - every installation of our Unified Security Management (USM) tool feeds data back into OTX and AlienVault's labs so that USM is constantly getting smarter and is proactively deflecting threats and intrusion attempts.

We are looking for Python/Django developers (as well as Angular/JS developers) to help us build SAAS tools on top of OTX. If you are interested in learning more, please contact me.

Hi Jeffrey. Thanks for taking a look. We haven't posted openings to the careers page just yet - please send me an email at hbaxamoosa [at] alienvault [dot] com so that we can connect about our openings.

    Thanks for having me talk.

Here are some links for those brave enough to venture into the world of Erlang:

    - Fantastic (and fun) resource for beginner's

    http://mostlyerlang.com/
    - A podcast, mostly about Erlang - also features other functional languages/modern technologies; some episodes cater to beginner's and others feature expert commentary from the language creators themselves

    - Nice resource to connect Erlang developers together

Wayne, our consulting group uses OSX for python development, and ubuntu for production. Although increasingly often we are using vagrant (with an ubuntu box) for web projects. OSX is also super convenient for shorter term data analysis projects. Most of us use vim as our editor, and pull out pycharm if we have some heavy refactoring (pycharm's refactoring abilities are really great). You can check out my vim setup here: https://github.com/johndgiese/dotvim

I haven't noticed any major differences developing on OS X vs ubuntu python, although many of our projects are straightforward. I am sure you can find great resources about the pro/cons of vim, vagrant, etc. online.

Feel free to email me if you have any specific questions.

    Hi group.
I'm curious what OS and app do you use to do your python development on? What are pros and cons of your choice?
    Thanks,
