The Austin Python Meetup Monthly Meetup

Hi everyone,

At our August meetup, we had a great discussion about the need for local resources for learning Python, and catering to beginners and experts alike.  This is a very important and timely topic, and for our September meeting, I have a rather non-traditional format in mind: We will engage in a broad discussion, in small groups or as a large group, about how to concretely move forward with establishing an actual "Python Learning" meetup as part of the Austin Python umbrella.

I have a small slide deck that will hopefully motivate the discussions, but for this to be successful, we will need everyone to participate and contribute ideas.  Ideally, more than just a few people will be able to actually volunteer their time for these things.  (One of the topics of discussion is how to incentivize more participation from people who can act as mentors for these sorts of learning events.)

So come join us for pizza, drinks, and a lively discussion that will hopefully have a big impact on the future of Python in Austin!

Enjoyed the discussion and meeting some members. If anyone has access to some good intro activities, let me know, as well as where Python is most active (Twitter, IRC, etc) for good feedback while working on exercises. Thanks all.

FYI, there is now an Austin Selenium Meetup: http://www.meetup.com/Austin-Se...

They have had one meeting so far, and it had interesting topics.

I'll second Darryl, the first meetup was excellent. Very useful for testing and/or UI people.

Awesome topic. The boot camp is a good way to get someone fundamentally sound. Examples; one day - from 9am - 4pm. Steady grind. structured breaks. Brown bag lunch. Cover tools of trade, best practices, code projects etc etc...Shirley, by end of day the basic essence of python shall be embraced.

    Great! Great!

It sounds like good things are happening.

I am sorry that I had to change my plans at the last minute.

It seems that I have missed-out on some exciting meetings.

Nevertheless, you can count me in. Just let me know. I will surely plan to attend the next meeting.
