ABOUT THE DEEPENING JOURNEY

This circle is for those who want to take the journey process deeper or to jump right in. Journeys in this circle are generally longer (20-30 minutes), with less teaching/talking prior to the journey.

Each month, we may have a specific focus, however each participant is welcome to attend with their own intention. If you are new to the circle or to the shamanic journey, please do come 15 minutes early for orientation.

New to the Circle or the Shamanic Journey?
Please come 10-15 minutes early for a brief introductory discussion. One of our more experienced members will be glad to visit with you.

Watch this video for more about the shamanic journey:
Introduction to the Shamanic Journey
and other videos on the  Shamanic Passages YouTube channel:
- The Three Worlds of the Shamanic Journey
- Power Animals
- Working With Power Animals

Those comfortable with "plunging right in to the deep end" are certainly welcome! It is suggested that beginners first attend the Shamanism Class and Journey Circle or an Introduction to the Shamanic Journey workshop.

Your suggestion is not in alignment with the intention of this group. You should attend to see what the group is about first.

I have only been coming to circles for a little over a year, so I don't have the full range of experience as Falcon. But, I can say that in every instance someone was vocalizing, it felt more ego-based and was very distracting. I'd like to be proven wrong because I know that chanting and vocalizations are/were a big part of shamanic work. But, so far, my experiences have felt more like someone vocalizing "Look at me! Look at me!" rather than adding to the experience.

Thanks for your comments, Falcon. Maybe others will be inspired to share their thoughts?

I've been thinking a lot about vocalizing during the drum circle. This is something I've done before in another shamanic drumming circle a few years ago. It felt natural and soft and magical and allowed me to connect to a deeper feminine place within me. For me, vocalizing during shamanic drumming isn't about singing, but rather giving voice to sacred sounds and vocal rhythms within me.

I think this would be a good topic for discussion with the group. For some, it might be distracting, while for others it may be deepening. I have experienced some vocalizing that was very ego-based and distracting, and some that was clearly in tune with the Spirit of the event. I do believe that the discussion would be quite fruitful.
