Myth and Storytelling: The Ancient Journey

Myth and Storytelling: Tales of All Hallows 'Een
7:30 to 9:00 pm

Guest Facilitator: Bill Woodburn, M.Ed., LPC, LMFT

Hundreds of stories have been told over thousands of years around tribal fires and in village markets. The stories teach us the path, warn us of the perils, and show us the hidden doors. Along the way we find a life breathed into our souls, renewal of our humanity, and a clearer ear to the callings of Spirit. All we need is the ability to listen with the ancient understanding of our ancestors.

In this Meetup we will explore the art of listening to traditional wisdom tales. Using stories from around the world, we will explore what they teach us about the parts of every human life, such as community, calling, loss, love, and spirit. We will take time to discuss, question, and use them as maps on our own journeys. Along the way, we will look for and nurture the hero inside ourselves.

Bill Woodburn, MEd, LPC, LMFT has been a practicing counselor since 1988, also a professor and national workshop presenter. Growing up in a family of round-the-kitchen-table storytellers, he has never been too far from the power of stories. As a professional, storytelling has become part of his work with individuals and groups, helping them explore the art of being human.

This Circle is for anyone interested in shamanic practice. Shamanism is not a religion or a dogma. It is not dependent on any particular organizational structure or belief system, but is a practical world view based on ancient understanding of the relationships between humans and nature or Spirit. The shamanic perspective on life and living is extremely relevant to the challenges and concerns of our modern world and ordinary life experiences, and is compatible with all religious and spiritual beliefs.

Is anyone dressing up for Halloween?

Not that I know of (except maybe Sea Turtle, who came dressed as a ninja turtle last time :), but you certainly can if you want. Be sure to be comfortable for floor seating, or there are folding chairs. Still, that could be quite fun!

You might get in touch with Bill and make the suggestion. Last time, we created a story based on input from the group. That was fun!
