Focus on Content: 15 Minutes of Fame - Website Reviews

As part of the WordPress Focus on Content, let's take 15 minutes to look at some of our attendees' sites and give peer reviews.

  • We'll start with two minutes for you to present your site (both built or are just beginning to build) and your mission statement (you have one, right?)

Then we'll ask the questions:

  • What are you trying to do with having a web site?
  • Who is your audience?
  • What kinds of information will you be posting?
  • Why are you doing this?
  • How often are you going to be post and add information?

And the group will help you determine whether or not the site achieves your goals.

A reminder, that by content, we are referring to the overall texture or aura of your website, such as the overall presentation, the use of colors/graphics, readability (not the editorial content or what's written), usability (site navigation), and in general, whether there are other WordPress features, tools, or plugins that might enhance the users or even your experience.

The goal of reviewing sites is to be practical, helpful, and encourage good WordPress practices.

After we review a few sites, time permitting, we will spend the latter part of the meetup on general conversation and questions.

I would appreciate any breakthrough ideas. I have one I am thinking about. I guess you know how to reach me.

Mary, this is an ongoing process, so feel free to bring your ideas/question to upcoming meetups as well!

Feedback was direct and diversified. Recommendation: people who ask for a site review really do need to WANT it - regardless of the responses back. The underlying intention of feedback is positive but sometimes it will not be what the site-owner may want to hear.

This was as good as it gets. Jackie, you do a great service to us and Austin for the time and energy you selflessly donate. Wonderful meeting!

As always, this is a popular session, so if you discover you can't attend, please change your RSVP status to allow someone else to grab your spot!

Good idea to do website/blog reviews. It's a good way to get feedback and also learn from other's.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
