WordPress Subversion Seminar

[UPDATE Monday 11:16 AM] WordPress 2.7 is still just shy of Release Candidate stage. That means we probably won't have the full 2.7 release available for tonight's meetup. Instead of an Upgrade party, I'll be presenting a short seminar about Subversion: how to install and upgrade WordPress without downloading and uploading. Subversion is a version control system that developers use when working on WordPress. You can also use it to deploy and upgrade WordPress on your web server if you have shell access (ssh) and the 'svn' command is available. Join me to see how the pros do it. [/UPDATE] I'm writing this just after the 2.7 Release Meetup... a bit of a red herring as 2.7 hasn't been released yet. It should be out soon, and the members present agreed that next Monday would be a fine time for an upgrade party. It's at the same place (1309 E. 7th) next Monday at seven. There will be several experienced WordPress wranglers on hand to help you upgrade your blog and explore the new interfaces. The Conjunctured Coworking founders generously offered their space and even provided soda, coffee, and whatever we found in the fridge. BYOB is also welcome. Only fifteen people showed up to stock/raid the fridge this week, so I hope to see more people here next week despite the short notice. Cross your fingers and hope that 2.7 is released by then! Cheers, Andy

I learned a lot from this meetup about subversion and a few unix tricks, I use this stuff daily as a web host, system admin and web developer. I was about to go with GIT and this presentation made me rethink this. It may have been over the heads of some others in the room. Any word on a rescheduled WP 2.7 upgrade?

SSH and Linux code are over my head, so I didn't get much out of the subject, but I enjoyed meeting folks / making some helpful contacts.

Andy is a great persenter and very generous with his time and knowledge. Tonight's topic was too technical for me, but I still learned some useful things. I would have been helpful had Andy spoken more of what some of the Linux commands meant that he used, e.g. vi ...

I wish the overhead lights could be dimmed.

Going to skip this one. I use Subversion all day everyday at work already. Looking forward to the Upgrade Meeting, though.

2.7 doesn't appear to be released yet. Any chance it'll happen today before this Meetup?
