A memoir about unwittingly moving downstairs from a crystal meth sketch pad, "the poor man's crack den," and becoming the caretaker for the meth cook (who has nerve damage) until her boyfriend returns from prison. And then it really heats up.
The writing is done. I have signed permissions for use of letters and photos and telling the stories of lawbreakers. The agent/publisher query letter is done. I'm making a trailer and a blog. I'm on Twitter.
One main question: Should I even bother trying to get an agent? (I'm unknown, have no platform, and am not young--I've read about ageism, they don't want any new writer who is older because publishers hope for 10 books in any writer's career.)
I've completed my first book and am seeking representation. I am also exploring self-publishing, both print and ebook. I've been a developmental editor for Simon & Schuster and a journalist.
The Distribution Bootcamp was my first Author U event, and it was very well-organized and the participants top-notch professionals. Thank you.
