I am a Grasshopper Flying Club member, and fly Cessnas out of KPOU. Also beling to CAP, and belong to Valley Soaring over at Randall. Once in a blue moon, I'm in the blue with a glider.
Safety, sense of community, public image/awareness of GA, accessibility of GA to greater community. Alternative fuels, including electric power. Is it a dream? As I write, a manned electric plane is making a trans-Atlantic flight.
Right now I'm a part-owner of four Cessna aircraft, and most of my time is in Cessna aircraft. I do like other ships, but fly best in a Cessna 172. My dream aircraft is probably a Navion, at least I am impressed with its ramp appeal. I also like the Schleicher ASK-21, high performance glider. Valley Soaring has a beautiful one in its fleet. It is all composite, very clean, fast and aerobatic. A bit much for me, but still fun and a dream to fly the first time out. It could stay aloft for hours on an average day and outclimb a 172 on a sneeze. When in a powered aircraft, I prefer steam gauges. I'm just a six-pack kind of guy. Since I don't do martial arts or rock climbing anymore, and no longer walk around with a six-pack, I suppose I feel a need to compensate. There it is.
I am a new Private Pilot, based at Dutchess County. My first year as a Private Pilot has been a whirlwind of flying for CAP, Animal Rescue flights, flying through Class-B, into the DC SFRA, and into Class-C airports, and working on a glider rating.
