Antelope Canyon Fly-In

The Navajo Nation is home to the awesome haunting splendor of world famous Antelope Canyon. Carved from the rugged Navajo sandstone by a millennium of rain and wind, these natural cathedrals have an uplifting mysticism that words cannot fully describe. Come see nature's surprising masterpiece of color! Please RSVP if you are interested in attending so that I have an idea of our group size.

Our tour is offered by Carol Bigthumb of Navajo Antelope Canyon Tours ( We will be picked up from the airport in suburbans at 1100am (be sure to arrive to the airport by 1030am), transported 20 minutes to the canyon where we will spend about 1 hr and 15 minutes, then returned back to the airport. This will cost $31 per person. There is an optional add-on if we wish to see Rattlesnake Canyon...this is an additional hour for an additional $14 per person. Rattlesnake Canyon has arches, which I've been told are worth seeing. We'll ask the group what they prefer and the majority will rule. When we return, we'll be dropped off at the Ranch House Grill, which is about half a mile from the airport, where we'll enjoy lunch.

Note: I realize this is a chilly time of year in Northern Arizona but if you love photography, this might be the best time to get photos of the canyon without a lot of other tourists in your shot. It will be about 45 - 50 F in Page and about 10 degrees cooler in the canyon. Be sure to dress warmly!

Optional add-on: We won't be far from the Lake Powell Resort if you have an interest in staying overnight. There's a nice restaurant there, too, with a great view of the lake.

Blue skies,

Julia and Jay

This was a 5 PLUS star meetup!! INCREDIBLE folks to share awesome scenery and great times with!!! Soooo glad I went!! I kept thinking about how the spirit of our dear late friend Ken must have been along with us on this one... he would have loved it and been delighted that the group is continuing on in his stead. Wonderful meeting all of you that I didn't already know... Let's do more things like this!! Perfect !!!! Except for the minor little fact I lost ALL my electric power on the trip back... interesting flight (and landing) with no gps, no radios, no intercom, no oil pressure indicator, no flaps and no power for putting down the gear... ahhh good tales for future discussions at hangar talk get togethers!! and yes, those guys at ATC REALLY CAN be real life savers!! and... now we might all reflect on WHY we practice emergency landing procedures.. ya' just never know.

Tony Lehrman, yes I do. Can you email me [masked] and give me a telephone number? I'll be available to talk around 15:30 (three thirty, about an hour from now).

Hi Adam, do you still have an available seat? I'd love to go with you.

My current plan is to arrive early enough to run a few miles at Nokai Dome, a back-country airstrip about 50 NM east of Page (PGA). I do have a ticket to a concert at 20:00 (eight o'clock) in Scottsdale that I don't want to miss, so I don't plan to linger after the fly-in event. If anybody wants to join me, I have empty seats.
