Monthly Meeting

The primary activity of each meeting will be the review of an essay written by Ayn Rand applying Objectivist principles to aspects of modern culture.  Our method is to "chew" a particular essay -- to review, to discuss, to increase the depth of our understanding of the principles and observations it contains.

We are engaged in exploring a series of essays on the connection between knowledge, values, and emotions, including the role played by romantic art in the development and sustaining of rational values.  Most of the essays we have studied in the past year appear in The Romantic Manifesto.  We will continue this series into 2014, then move on to another aspect of Objectivism.

The current subject essay is:  "What is Romanticism?" (1969)

The January-March 2014 will continue with our reading of the essay "What is Romanticism?".

The subject of this essay is the nature of Romanticism and Naturalism, how these approaches to art, specifically in literature, have manifested in actual works, and how they have been affected by trends in philosophy.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
