Thai New Year Celebration (Songkran)

Celebrate Songkran (Thai New Year) at Wat Thai DC on Sunday, 4/13, from 9am to 3pm.

Vendors from all over the East Coast will be selling delicious Thai food, gifts, clothing, artifacts, etc. Thai music, dancing, kick boxing performances will also be featured.  Remember to bring plenty of cash!

Free (but limited) parking is available at Wat Thai, Barrie School.

I recommended parking at Glenmont Metro Station garage and riding the free shuttle buses to Wat Thai.  The buses will run every 15 minutes.

Anyone interested in meeting up around 12:00pm? I am coming from Silver Spring, so I was either going to take metro to or drive and park at Glenmont station...figured either just outside the station or at the entrance of Wat Thai itself would be a conducive meeting spot...

I should be there in 5. Is there some place everyone is meeting?

It looks like I won't be able to make it to this one guys. A timing conflict with my students at Towson University came up.
If anyone wants to be an event host, let us know. That just means getting there maybe a half hour before the meetup time to post a recognizable rallying point and saying hello to people.
In any case this is a really cool traditional DC Thai public festival all of us should check out once. If you're Thai or Cambodian- have a happy new year :-)

I've updated this posting with program information from the temple's official website.
If you're Thai, you may want to get there earlier in the day for the religious ceremonies and the sermons by the monks.

I always drove by and wanted to check out the Thai Temple in Silver Spring. This looks interesting.

I'll post meeting up details later for anyone that wants to go together although it is an all day event.
