RE: [digcam-216] Message Board - On Camera Flash..........

1. What is the name of the photo editing program(s) you are currently using? I use PS CS3, but on :::AHEM::: on longer occasions I use the bathroom when needed rather than the Lightroom.

2. What would you say your proficiency level is? a. Haven't opened it yet.
b. Just a beginner & I need all the help I can get.
c. I'm more than a beginner but could use some help.

d. I'm moving right along, intermediate. Im probably here and could teach some on some topics
e. I'm an experienced pro but open to suggestions.
f. I am an expert & willing to teach.

I am also engaged with course through NYIP (New York Institute of Photography) so I am open to helping where I can for others.

I think that the interim workshop is a good idea, and I should be able to make either day, though I cannot schedule it just yet.

As for your second question set, I think that this just points out how much I go against the grain, but hopefully in a good way:

1.       I use several programs, IDC for some work, simple RAW processing and such, Lightzone for the majority of editing work, and Faststone for simple things like resizing and such.  I used these because I find them more streamlined and efficient since they have all I need, and nothing that I don’t.

2.       As for proficiency, I suppose I am closest to your level “D”, moving along/intermediate.  I know what the tools do and know all the terms, but I still spend a fair amount of time trial and erroring.

As for the mentoring idea, I am all for it.  I am not a professional, but at the same time I have taken other new photographers up through understanding all the basics and into some more advanced ideas.  I am very willing to share any and all knowledge with anyone who’s ok with the idea that I don’t have every answer.  Anybody wants to go shoot, I’ll be happy to be right there with you.

We have received a challenge of sorts & I would like to get some feedback from all members on this subject and one more item, please.

First, I would like to accept this challenge if the membership is ready. In order to be sure we are going to be prepared, I would also like to schedule an interim meeting/workshop to address the subject of "On Camera Flash" & see that we are prepared to produce some really nice images using JUST the on-camera flash. I believe we can do this and it should be fun to have a little competition over the Internet between the 2 clubs.

In addition, there was some pretty strong interest in another suggestion for a future challenge either for ourselves or with that "other" group on the east side. I propose to demonstrate how to put an item of color into a Black & White conversion at this same meetup. This is really a pretty simple thing to do but if we do it as a group there would be a chance to give individual instruction to members who may not be real familiar with their editing software.

This leads me to my second question.

1. What is the name of the photo editing program(s) you are currently using?

2. What would you say your proficiency level is? a. Haven't opened it yet.
b. Just a beginner & I need all the help I can get.
c. I'm more than a beginner but could use some help.
d. I'm moving right along, intermediate.
e. I'm an experienced pro but open to suggestions.
f. I am an expert & willing to teach.

We don't want to move too fast for some less experienced members but we have also had other members offer to be mentors & teachers for the beginning level folks so you can have an opportunity to fast-track the learning experience if you wish.

If we get a positive response to this e-mail I am going to suggest we have the meetup/workshop either Tuesday, July 22 @ 7 PM or Saturday, July 26 @ 10 AM at the same place we had our first meeting, the Las Casitas Clubhouse.

Please let me know you response by Monday, July 7 @ 9 PM. Thank you for your participation!
