Crescent Meadows-Walker Ranch Loop is an 8+ mile roundtrip hike starting near Gross Dam Reservoir in Coal Creek Canyon. It's a moderately difficult hike leading down to the Boulder Creek with around 2,000 feet of elevation gain (roundtrip). Great view of mountains to the west, open mountain meadow dropping down to South Boulder Creek and interconnecting with Boulder County Parks and Open Space’s Walker Ranch Loop Trail. Beginning Elevation: 7,500 Dogs are allowed on leash.
Note: If you're not up for the 8+ mile trail, cut it short at the junction and make it a 5 mile roundtrip hike.
Carpooling: Meet at 8:15am at the RTD park n ride located on the southeast corner of Hwy 72 and 93 where we'll form some carpools. Just make sure your carpoolers are all doing the same length of hike and want to go to lunch!
Directions to the Trailhead: Two ways to get there - From Denver/Golden get to the intersection of Highways 93 and 72, south of Boulder. Go up Highway 72 (Coal Creek Canyon) 8.2 miles. Turn right by the fire station on Crescent Road to Gross Dam Road (county road 77) for about 2.4 miles. Cross over the railroad tracks and park at the Crescent Meadows trailhead on the right.
Second route from Boulder - Drive up Flagstaff Road 8 miles. Turn left on to Gross Dam Road(To:State Highway 72 sign). Go 2.5 miles, turn left at the absurdly small "To Denver" sign ( A big brown garage is nearby). Continue on 1.5 miles to the Crescent Meadows trailhead on the left.
Optional lunch after the hike in Coal Creek Canyon at the Wondervu Cafe. Check it out http://wondervucafe.net/menu.html
