Let's start the New Year off with a hike in beautiful Roxborough State Park.  The trail to Carpenter Peak is a 6.4 mile round-trip hike of moderate-to-steep terrain. Its summit is the highest point in the park and provides a spectacular view in all directions.

Park Pass:  Roxborough is a state park and all visitors are required to display a valid Colorado State Parks Pass or purchase a daily pass.  Passes are available for $7 at the park entrance, the Visitor Center or the self service station.

Carpooling: A couple options for carpooling if you don't have a state park pass...

1.  For those coming from the north, meet on the shoulder of Golden Gate Road just off Highway 93 at 8:45am.  Add a comment if you plan to meet at this location. We'll meet the group at the next carpool location...

2.  Meet closer to the park at 9:45am - Meet at the east side of the large parking lot located at the southwest corner of North Rampage Range Road and West Waterton Road. This is the shopping center where the Waterton Tavern (lunch Location) and Safeway are located.  We will meet in this parking lot at 9:45 am and we'll consolidate and drive fewer cars into the park.

Optional Lunch after the hike at the Waterton Tavern located at 8361 North Rampart Range Road | Littleton, CO 80125 | [masked] Check it out www.watertontavern.com

Directions to the Trailhead: Take Wadsworth south past Chatfield State Park. Turn left on Waterton Road (just before the entrance to Lockheed Martin.) Continue on Waterton Road—crossing the South Platte River, until it ends at North Rampart Range Road (1.6 miles) Turn right (south) on North Rampart Range Road. Continue south past Roxborough Village and the Foothills Water Treatment Plant. (2.3 miles) At the intersection of North Rampart Range Road and Roxborough Park Road (just before the entrance to Arrowhead golf course), turn left onto Roxborough Park Road. Take the next right on East Roxborough Drive(about 50 yards away) to enter the park.

From Santa Fe - Head south on Santa Fe (Highway 85) to Titan Road. (4.2 miles south of C-470 intersection) Turn right (west) on Titan Road. Continue heading west on Titan Road. It will curve and begin to head south—becoming North Rampart Range Road (3 miles). Continue south on North Rampart Range Road past Roxborough Village and the Foothills Water Treatment Plant (3.5 miles). At the intersection of North Rampart Range Road and Roxborough Park Road, turn left onto Roxborough Park Road. Take the next right on East Roxborough Drive(about 50 yards away) to enter the park.

See you there!

The hike was great with fantastic weather. I love rock formations such as Red Rocks, Roxborough and Monument Valley in Utah. BUT!!! I have never laughed as much as I did today. LINDA!!! You're great!!!

We had a great time--so nice to meet all of you! I was especially happy that Nancy wanted to hike at a slower rate of speed than the rest of the group. It was nice to have a hiking partner who enjoyed the slower pace whereby we could check out the animal tracks and the birds. We saw a golden eagle, a couple of scrub jays and many chickadees!

My apologies. I am unable to change an appointment without pushing it way out (person has been on vacation past 10 days). Have some questions for Deb offline. It looks like such a great choice.
