Caribou Ranch Hike

Easy hike at Caribou Ranch located near Nederland. Lollipop trail about 4.2 miles with very little elevation gain. Sorry, no dogs allowed on this trail. There are bathrooms located at the parking lot. Group size is limited, so we may have two groups.

Hot Drinks: If it's chilly in Nederland, think about bringing a small thermos of hot chocolate or tea/coffee to share with the group. Bring your own cup.

Carpooling: Recommend carpooling since there are only 25 parking spaces at this park. Meet me at the parking lot located at CO 170 & Hiway 93 (northeast corner) at 7:30am and we'll form some carpools here.

Directions: Take Hwy 93 to Canyon Blvd or the Boulder Turnpike (U.S. 36) to Boulder and exit at the Baseline Road exit. Turn left on Baseline (stay in the far right turn lane) and then right onto Broadway. Turn left on Canyon Blvd./Highway 119 toward Nederland. Zero your odometer. Drive up the canyon and around Barker Dam to the first traffic circle in Nederland (17.3 miles). Take the second right at the traffic circle, Highway 72/Peak to Peak Highway. It's 1.9 miles to the turnoff for County Road 126. (0.2 of a mile from the traffic circle, you'll see a sign for "Caribou", ignore that. Look for the sign for "Caribou Ranch Open Space" about 1.8 miles from the traffic circle) Take the dirt County Road 126, 0.9 miles to the entrance to Caribou Ranch Open Space.

Optional lunch in Nederland (maybe try the new Thai restaurant).

See you there!

Wind notwithstanding, it was a beautiful hike - but I was winded by the altitude; I don't get up that high very often. And thanks for bunching up in the car for me.

Thanks, Debbie, for always having extra supplies to help out those of us who are sometimes lacking; it is much appreciated!

I'm not sure of the location of 170 and 93 for carpooling. Is it I-70 and is it near Golden? We're coming from Denver.

It's just south of Boulder. Nowhere near I70. 93 runs N-S between Boulder and Golden. 170 runs into Glenwood Canyon.

I had to look it up myself. CO-170 hits 93 at Marshall Mesa, which is also the intersection for Eldorado Springs Drive.

Jim, thanks, but I'm still not clear on where we meet for the carpool. My husband and I are new to the Denver area.

I can meet in Boulder if you want to share a ride from there. Your phone number is incomplete, so I couldn't call. Call me[masked]

Group size is limited, so we will have two groups. If you've changed your mind, please change your RSVP so wait listed people have a chance to decide on attending. No shows will be noted.

I will be driving from the C-470 and Bowles area if anyone would like to carpool. I could also stop at the Wooly Mammoth PnR. Let me know.

I am coming from the tech ctr and can get to 470 easily. Where would I meet you from there?
